Could someone give me some information on the perkins 365? i know that it was used in the 399, but is it applicable for pulling? I would be making a limited pro with it. running a p pump and large turbo. I do not know much about the engine so any information would be appreciated.

What is the limit on your cubes, that would be my biggest concern is being able to get up to around 500 cubes and being able to keep it together.

i am going to run it at stock size. In Northwest they run limited pro stocks of max 400 cu in. and p pump with a 3x4 turbo with the super farms and thats what i want to build

Like Eric said the 365 head is much better. It would be a lot easier to adapt the p pump to the 365 rather than trying to stand it up on the old 354 block or belt driving it. We used the 354 block just because its what we had. I actually believe the 365 would be stronger.

It came in the later 399 Massey Fergusons. Aka the 1006-6 perkins diesel.

There's 2 different heads for these engines. Early ones were no more than a .4 head, late ones were a pretty decent 12 port head.

another question. is a 540 cup in engine with an a pump and unlimited turbo weighing in at 8500lbs able to compete with super farms or would it blow them away and what are the limitations to an a pump>?

354 perkins help January 07, 2019 03:31PM
I have an 1850 with a 354 perkins . Exhaust and turbo are from white 2-105. Will a 365 head fit onto an early 354 block (non dot 4)? I believe this engine is from a massey 550 combine. I have replaced the 7mm c.a.v. fuel pump. With a 10mm c.a.v . . Tractor dyno tested 165 hp. What would you suggest I do to get to 300 hp? Will more fuel work on this c.a.v., lines, injectors and bigger turbo get me there? Or will I need to find a dot 4 block with 365 head? I would like to stay around 3000 RPM . Thanks

yes the 1006 head will bolt on a dot 1 block ..if you go to a 12 port 1006 you will also have to change cam

there are a few places that claim 300+ ccs out of a cav you could do that or get a roosa master 450 head with the 3 bolt stanadyne body and bolt on it
or get a 14mm bosch VE pump setup to run counterclockwise

injectors probably 4x16 or 4x18 tips 3000 psi pop pressure (much higher psi is hard on tapped out rotary pumps i hear)
.120 injector lines for it

a dot 4 block is for sure better but it wont swap into the 1850 tub without some work

s300 turbo

copper head gasket too

this will get you pretty close Jason E.

Thanks for your help. Maighbach said they have a dot 4 block and head however if the 1006 head bolts onto this old block sounds simplest. I was not aware that dot 4 block would not mount in the 1850 without some effort. I thought 2-105 2-110 had same frames as 1850. Where would you recomend I look for A 1006 head?

there is very little difference between a early 1006 head and a dot 4 head so if you can get a dot 4 head cheap go for it because the 1006 parts are harder to find and more $$$

the 2-105 series 1 and 2 had a dot 1 354 engine
the series 3 and 2-88 had dot 4 engines .. if you get a dot 4 out of one of those it should go right in a 1850 frame but a dot 4 out of say a massey combine takes some work because of the front mount and large balancer and crank pulleys.. dot 1 and dot 4 cranks are different so you cannot just take a 1850 pulley and put on a dot 4 engine

I also run a turbo Ed 1850 Oliver. I’m curious where you all suggest to get a pump to replace the CAV. I want something that could be turned down to stock hp and also have fun in the open classes.

the 372 still has sleeves .. if you run on the counterbore with no sleeves it will put you at around 400 cid
the counterbore is kind of thin so if you bore it out much you should make it big enough to fit in larger sleeves too

So if you take it out larger past the counter bore, then would you just use the sleeve without flanges? Have you ever heard of anyone doing that?

The bore on a 354 engine is 3.88 and the counterbore diameter is 4.06 so lets say you want a bore of 4.2 so i would bore out the counter bore to 4.4 and have a repair sleeve installed back to the 4.2 bore no flange on repair sleeve

so there isn't much info out there about the 372 so I have to ask. I have a 354.2, 372 and a 354.4 already but haven't gotten time to tear into them yet to find out myself. so if I wanted to just do some bare minimal work to just get started in farm stock pulling, what kind of combination would be best? use the 372 with the 354.4 head? does the 372 have piston squirters to keep cool? I'm assuming I would want to use the cam of the 354.4 engine as well or do I just simply use the 354.4 engine. thanks

You'll make more power with a 354 with .4 pistons than you will with a 372 with those pistons due to bowl design.

Only .4 blocks had piston coolers, use the rods out of a non-.4 turbo engine. They have a 1.500 wristpin which you'll need for .4 pistons, and they're gun drilled completely to the top with a bushing machined to channel oil around it and cool the bottom of the pistons. You'll need to machine a taper to the top of the rods to match the interior of the piston.

A .4 head would probably be best unless you went to the 12 port 1006 head if you want to keep it simple. The 12 port 1006 head requires all the 1006 top end parts and camshaft to make that all work.

Just use the 354.4 engine it has a better head than the non dot 4 engines ,its a stronger block and if its factory turbocharged then it already has cooling jets so no need to swap rods .. if ya want more cubes just bore it out like i said before .. but if i have a 6.372 and a 6.354.4 im taking the dot 4 354 every time

Stanadine pump on 1850 perkins February 25, 2019 03:58PM
We have decided to go with the 450 head on a stanadine body. Problem is we have not been able to locate a stanadine donor pump. The pump we need were used in small John Deere pay loaders and backhoes. The construction salvage yards I have called don't seem to have one. Any Ideas where I can find one?

early massey ferguson 6170, 6180, and 8120 up to late 97 models. all used the stanadyne pump with the with the 3 bolt flange you need

1850 perkins i have a friend with one of those pumps for sale if your interested it has the 3 bolt flange and already has the 450 head .. all it needs is to be setup to run counterclockwise. it came off of a 1006 perkins
