dt466 into Farmall?

I am looking to make a hot farm tractor to pull around my neck of the woods. I want to swap a dt466 into a Farmall 460, 560, or 656 possibly. Could I swap it into those tractors without doing any mods to the frame or sheet metal? I heard the bell housing on the 460 was smaller than the 560 so it would not work. Any opinions? Thanks!

It can be done to nearly any IH or farmall- even an H! But how long the tranny/rear hold up is dependant on how you build it and how much HP you are going for. |

Yeah but my question is which model tractor would be the easiest to swap without modding the frame and sheet metal |

You should share what you might think easy is. I think it would be easiest to put the tin work of the tractor you want to pretend to represent on a 66 frame. |

By easy I mean not having to mod the frame or sheetmetal to fit the dt466, I'm sorry I wasn't clear. I've seen a few 560's around with a 466 swapped in so I was wondering if that's the tractor to go with. |

Can't do it without stretching the frame and sheetmetal. I did see one that had the dash and steering column moved forward to allow for the longer engine, but the frame rails still need to be longer. |

I used 856 rails (same as 806,1206,1256) and I think they would be long enough for a row crop tractor. They are 2 9/16 longer than 560 rails. Mine's a Wheatland, so I had to go a little longer due to the front bolster interfering with the front pulley. |

Did you have to use a different hood because you used longer rails? And did the 466 fit inbetween the rails fine? Where would be a good place to find rails? I seem to have no parts tractors around my area. |

Yes, the hood need to be stretched- I picked up a couple of rough hoods to make a longer one, as well as the side tin. If you use a tractor front cover, you gotta cut on the mounting ears to fit the frame rails, but it's not a hard job. The rear plate from any 66-86 series tractor will fit. You can just add on to your existing frame rails if you want. I found a local farmer with a junk 856 for mine. |

What age truck? Somewhere in the early 90's they switched to the new style block that will not interchange. The older ones will. |

Didn't give up on the Case to build a red one- had the 560 long before the 1175. Just decided to get out of IPA farm stock. Built a Minnie for heavy antique and had a blast last season (5 wins). Might jump into IPA outlaw someday. |

I have put a 466 in a 686 before. Its not an easy chore. It takes a lot of work to make everything happen. It is possible to keep stock length if you build your own front bolster to make clearance for the dampener on the front of the crank. Then flywheels and clutches and starters become your next hurdle. By the sounds it may be more of an undertaking than you feel comfortable with. A 360 in a 66 or 666 may be a better choice for you. |

Sounds like a lot of horsepower to put in that rearend. This looks like why components got pushed. |
