I mean do you need 55 series push rods or will the 40 series work? |

Everything bolts up and works but your comp ratio will be way low , may be won't start |

I thought it was the opposite.. you gain compression when bolting a 55 series head on 40 series block/piston |

A 55 series head has a 20cc cumbustion chamber in the head. A 40 series head is flat. So yes you will loose compression when putting on a 55 from a 40 series. |

It will start just fine. Leave it alone. |

My rough math has cylinder volume on a 466 ci engine as somewhere around 1270ccs. I'm taking a pure guess because I don't know the Deere specs but if it's for example roughly 18:1 compression stock, that's 1270 cylinder volume + 75cc bowl = (1345 cc air volume) / (75 cc bowl) = 17.9:1 compression ratio.
Add a 20cc dish in the head, now you have 1365 cc volume / 95 cc bowl = 14.3:1 compression ratio. Should still start, plus now you're ready to put in more air and fuel. Just my 2 cents. |

i think run good at open rpms it will probably not hang in good at lower engine speeds |

I just got a 466 block out of a 6620 combine so does that have a 40 series head? |

Depends on what year the 6620 was. If it was a "79-82 was a 40. 83-88 was a 50 and from 88 or 89 it was a 55 series. The 6620 Titan II was made mid 85 to 89 and had a green roof. Older 6620's had the yellow roof. Hope this helps. |
