Truck head on a Ford 401 May 08, 2013 02:43AM
We are getting ready to put a truck head on a 401 block. What do we use for head bolts and where do we get them from. Thanks in advance

use the ones for the truck head

I used the bolts from the 401. just have to make sure to keep the rockers lined up when you tighten them down. the dowel pins will keep the head from moving. Or you have to drill and tap the block for the 9/16 head bolts out of the truck block.

later turboed blocks are 9/16 already

For farm use only , put a washer in and you'll be fine

I know it would be super thin.. But could you find a bushing/sleeve.. Wouldn't need it on all of them..

The injector holes in the truck head are deeper than the tractor head, so you might have to use the truck straight bosch injectors. I once machined the tractor injectors to fit, but we cut through to the fuel passage on one or two. It gets really close to it. Good luck!
