4010/4020 axle housings March 15, 2018 05:12AM
Does anyone know the weight difference between the late 4010 housing and the 4020 housing?

Depends on which 4010 housings there are light ones and heavy ones

The heavy 4010 housing.

Which 4010 had the lighter housings?

Best I can figure only the 1961 models. Most where on gas models. So many have been switched around by now. But you can tell by looking. Light ones are thinner where bolt to rear end. Also have different casting number.

The light axle housing you are looking for end with the cast part number on the axle housing of 010R. They were made the first year in 1960 and are hollow square on the inside and weight 75 lbs. each lighter than the later ones that were round on the inside like the axle. I have about 6 sets but you should be able to find some close to you. Best luck is on Propane or gas powered 4010's as they could not be turned up and are usually in better shape. Thanks, Doug
