One word BANG!!!

They will hold a lot but your only getting that free spinning it as soon as you load it up right down to 3000. If your going to buy the good pump and turbo to keep the high revs so ya might as well do it right if your going to do it. Just my 2 cents. Hate to see ya put a few grand in a pump and pitch #2 rod and there goes your pump and 466 are known to pitch #2.

The IH 400 series engine was factory balanced for 5500 rpm when originaly built.

I was told that years agoe but I think that is unsafe with the cast flywheel. When I had a 466 in a truck it was goverened at 3200 as was our 1486, and we ran that tractor for over 10,00 hours before trading it off without any rpm other than 2 times we broke pushrods

It may have been balanced fore 5500 rpm, but the valve train/valve springs were rated for 3500 rpm as per their own advertising literature in a truck.

3500 rpms isnt bad for an engine built in the early 70s. add some better springs and there you go. your limit on fuel and air wont let you get too high
