Manifold question. What would be the best one with regards to turbo's? Is there a 466 one that wont require the hood to be cut? This would on a 4430.

Re: John deere 404 February 22, 2014 11:58AM
The 55 series exhaust manifold is considered THE one to use, it will get you a T4 exhaust housing foot without an adapter. Unless you're running something bigger than an HX60 you shouldn't have any trouble keeping it under the hood on a 4430. You are going to run into problems with the water outlet manifold. You can mess around and cut, hack and weld it up so it's moved out of the way to clear the turbo's compressor housing or just make up a simple one with some plates and some pipe fittings.

Correct me if im wrong, but the 7810 therm housing i think will correct this? Anyone out there that can shed some light on this?

Re: John deere 404 February 23, 2014 10:59AM
You are correct, it will, but what are you going to do about the water pump? If you put the thermostat housing on the front of the head you will either need to have a gear driven water pump or an electric one.

Let me ask you then. Can a plate be made to keep the charger away from the water jacket? I wasnt going to run anything much larger than a 3lm or s300.
Would a combine manifold work? Would there be clearence enough at the dash/firewall?

I put a 55 series exhaust manifold on it the built small wedges to but under the water manifold it laid the water manifoild love everything cleared really nice

Re: John deere 404 February 24, 2014 01:42PM
Highmanor any chance you can build me set of those wedges? Started to put a bigger turbo on a 4430 last summer and found out I needed what you built,

Re: John deere 404 February 24, 2014 01:55PM
i would run 7810 exhaust manifold and throw away the thermostat housing put a flat plate to front of head drill hole in center and weld a 1 1/2 barb fitting in there and i run a electric water pump from jegs and it works great i mount water pump just on front of block and use a flat plate there also with short hose i can text u pic if you are interested.

Have a problem locating the thermostats in our john Deere 404 motor on the boat. Has anyone had a need to replace one and know where it's located on the engine? Thanks.

The thermostat is at the aft end of the engine, under the rectangular tank that has the rad cap on it
