S200 or S300 for IH414? October 20, 2015 02:11PM
What size of s300 turbo would a IH414 be able to spin? I've seen on the AC forum someone was having better luck using a s300 62/68/.88 turbo for their AC 220 farm tractor with 220+hp and that he also said if a person was to use the s300 for less HP to go with 62/65/.88 but I can't find that size anywhere and the 426 is close enough to the 414 can someone point me in a direction I can go or would a s200 be better suited?

I have a 3lm but have heard that they are getting a little cheap like built and the thrust bearings are not holding up, this is why I would like to hear from some more professionals on the matter of what size s200-s300 would be great for the IH414 running 140-300HP if and when the 3lm shoots sh!t. Fabrication is what I do so that is not an issue, thanks!

We put a Chinese knockoff hx40 on our 806 from eBay and works really well. A lot better than the 3LM that's on one of our 12s. And it's only $265.

Might have to check that out. Did it have a t3 or t4 foot?

Our 2 Hot 2 Farm class with ISP runs the S360 as our box turbo, and they've worked out very well. We are at 466 cubes, and they spool up quick and make good boost. Good reliability too. Most of us are running the .91 A/R exhaust housing (which is standard) and some have tried the 1.00. I would think at 414 cubes the .91 or the .88 would work fine. Mounting is easy too on an IH. They are a T4 foot so they bolt right to the manifold, and you can either machine the exhaust housing to fit your stock cast elbow (which is what I did) or you could probably make an elbow to go on the v-band flange and still possibly use the same hole in the hood if the radius was tight enough. Overall they are a pretty easy drop-in and are a big step up from a 3LM, in my experience.

Okay Ian so you think and s360 would spool ok on a 414 with a .88 housing for 5mph-8mph pulling in 1 high in 5mph and 2 high in 8mph.....kind of forgot to mention that. Would also the s360 dimensions be about the same as a 3lm?

How much fuel do you have, and what RPM limit? Those things might make some difference. Running those gears at those speed limits you shouldn't have to throttle back too much to stay under the limit, so that would help keep you from getting under the boost.

As far as the overall size, the S360 is just a bit taller than a 3LM, and a little bigger in diameter, but really not that much. I was even able to reuse the stock oil supply and drain lines. To use your stock exhaust elbow like I mentioned above you do need to shim up the mounting foot about 1/2" or so above the pad on the manifold, but I just used washers to do that. You'll need to make a different crossover pipe, but the compressor outlet on the S360 is 3", so it's pretty easy to adapt to.

Should be 210cc with stock injectors at this time and I like to keep it at 2600. Sounds like it should be a really good fit to me and I can make things to adapt and overcome whatever else, and I forgot to mention I did try a s2e which wasn't much more special than my stock To4 with a different exhaust housing that I have on it right now, and I just bought a used 3lm for it and I may buy another if and when the 3lm shoots sh!t and or I want to try something different is the reason why I'm asking about the s200-s300. Thanks A LOT Ian!

The HX40 copy we got has the T4 flange
