DT466 Stiffer Valve Springs May 17, 2016 01:25PM
Hi Everyone,

I'm new here and want to first thank you all for your willingness to share your knowledge. I'm building a '95 dt466 mechanical motor for 500hp and am trying to find a source for heavy duty valve springs. I was told a good option was to order 12 exhaust brake springs and use them on the intake and exhaust valves to let it rev up to 3800 rpm. But I can't find a source for those springs. Or other heavy duty springs to accomplish the same goal. Any input or vendor recommendations that could help are greatly appreciated.

If 3800 is all you're wanting to turn stock Springs are fine unless you have an different cam in it.

No i'm running a stock cam. I was reading that the stock valve springs will start to float at 3400rpm. Do you think it would be worthwhile to tighten down the stock springs a little more than spec?

Does a guy really need the rotators on the exhaust side or can you just run the necessary shims all the way across? My 466 did not come with any in it when I bought it so curious whether I should put them in or not. Thanks!

The springs ya got are wore out.I start out with new ones every season and change them right after bowling green.they lose quite a bit of seat and nose pressure in that amout of time

Thanks for the responses so far guys. I'm rebuilding the head with new springs but I just want to be sure I get the right ones before I purchase the parts. Do you think new stock springs can be tightened down a bit to get me to about 4000 rpm, or is there a vendor out there that sells heavy duty springs for the dt466?

Thanks Red! Ordered a set of double valve springs and rotators from Hypermax today. Will allow me to go up to 5000 rpm without dropping valves! $480 to my door.
