I'm trying to time a dt466 injection pump right now, I belive its called a p-pump all 6 inline at top and I don't think it timed correctly due to the white smoke. I aligned at 17 deg btdc on the crank indicator witch it called for but I think I missed something could you help?

As stated, Yes, a rotary will run 180 out, but not very well. It will smoke white, blow smoke rings, and have poor throttle response. It will also begin diluting your oil with fuel if ran long enough. One thing to check is make sure the injection lines correspond to the firing order. The number 1 injection pump port is closest to the front of the pump. the lines should revolve around counter clockwise from the top in firing order. 1-5-3-6-2-4.
