Ih 301 gas stroker November 02, 2016 02:20AM
Trying to build a ih 301. 4 inch bore 5.5 stroke. Will a worked over 301 combine carb work? Only gonna spin about 2600rpms. Billet rods of course. Also where's a good place to send the cam? Just looking for some opinions and suggestions from people who have similar setups. Thanks !

I have a similar set up with a built combine carb and i sent my cam to quality performance products in spencer wi, and i am very happy with my cam at 3000 rpms

how much hp is your setup? whats your motor specs? any clue what a 4x5.5 at 2800 rpm would make?

Im not sure what this is for horsepower my stock cube 291 put out 90 with just a cam and a carb.

I have the same setup and found a big zenith with 21/8 throat made a big difference. Motor felt much stronger after I changed from the 806 carb. I also changed intake manifolds.

Lugs very well. I pull 3730 and 4250 class at 8 mph.

I couldn't tell you the bore and stroke of my C301, but it use to run at 5,000 rpm with the combine carb for years and would produce around 200hp running in a 6,500 open rpm open speed class. The only difference between the carbs in the 221, 263, 291, 301 (806) and 301 combine is the venturi. There is a major size difference between the 806 venturi and the combine venturi. We switched to a smaller venturi after a while because while granted the combine venturi lets the fuel and air to pour into the engine, it does not really allow the tractor to idle at all. All you need to get if you want to make the upgrade is the venturi, but finding one can be a search. I recommend calling Bates Corp out of Indiana. Their number is 800-248-2955.

That's not completely correct. The 221 and some 263 motors have a smaller throttle bore and plate as well as a smaller Venturi the combine carbs also have an extra mid range passage in the carb body. It is real simple to bore a smaller Venturi out to a bigger size.

I'm doing a similar build what did you guys use for rods were they custom made or is there a option that I could find to bolt in after machine work
