6.7 Cummins block 5.9 crank December 03, 2016 02:17PM
What's the cubic in for a 6.7 block 5.9 crank . What parts from a 5.9 can be used for this combo any one run this combination ?12 valve head p pump 3500 rpm

Std bore 6.7 is 4.210" and 5.9 stroke is 4.72" netting 394 cubic inches. Works pretty good and allows room for big valves.

Wouldn't you need custom pistons though? The 6.7 piston wouldn't come to the top of the deck with a shorter stroke?

Several ways to do it. Taller Pistons, longer rods, or deck the block...somehow you have to make up 0.080"

Are you allowed to decube? Most of the light hot farms don't allow this. Personally I would use 5.9 bore and block and have crank stroked to 5.25" and be right at 399".

Carrillo makes billet rods .080 longer for this purpose.

The rules have been revised to allow a 1 present tolerance on the 399 to allow the 401 ford and case engines in here in ky

They should have went with a 410 and 470 rule so naturally those tractors could move up to llss, but like most things in pulling that probably made to much sense

What's the easiest and cheapest way to get to 400" or as close as using a 5.9 block?

Re: 6.7 Cummins block 5.9 crank December 09, 2016 08:18AM
Use the 6.7 its not over cubed

Re: 6.7 Cummins block 5.9 crank December 09, 2016 09:32AM
correction its to big I was thinking of something else you may just try the 5.9 as it is if your not wanting to spend a lot of cash but befor I gave a thousand for a 6.7 crank I would give coronets a 1000 to stroke what I have to 5.25 like 27 cummins said and then you should have a lot better torque to work with that 3500 rpm

I like the idea of the long stroke, then just add a 0.530" deck plate and get longer rods? I don't suppose there is a way to bore out a 5.9 to fit 6.7 pistons without reducing the wall thickness too much, is there even enough material to bore it out for liners to use the 6.7 pistons?

Yes there is room but it is too thin. Would be better off getting a 6.7 if you wanted to go that route. If money wasn't an issue and it allowed a deck plate, sleeves and rods would be the way to go. Also whike stroke would increase from 4.72" to 5.25" you only have to make up 0.265". I would just get a set of Pistons built.

Just add the deck plate you wouldn't need the longer rods I had a 1/4 inch thick copper head gasket made once it worked great a deck plate wouldn't cost much use the stock rods and pistons

Thanks for the help guys. Will a 5.25" crank turn in the block ok or will I need to grind a lot out of the crankcase?

Re: 6.7 Cummins block 5.9 crank December 10, 2016 12:28PM
I dont think you will have much of a problem . You could also offset grind the crank to a smaller journal I ran a set of deutz rods in one that I built with a 2 1/2 inch rod journal
