David Btown LLSS June 24, 2017 02:22PM
I' sold my tractor and thinking of a new project I'm looking for 1690 David Brown or 1694 Case or case IH sheetmetal I think a 1690 David Brown would ad a little different name and color to the class since I could go case or IH for the chassis 270 566 2901

I would definitely check out a David Brown tractor if I saw it in the pits at a regional or national event. There are too many IH'S and JD;S that look exactly the same. How many people actually walked up to Lance Littles 830 because it looked different. That was one potent putt putt. lol but different, I think a David Brown would be a perfect fit for a Badger State LLSS. Don't like the cookie cutter tractors that all look the same. Every class has 15 1066's no matter if it is super farm pro farm light pro, anything over 8500# is full ov 66 or 86 series IH's that all look alike and have zero variety. Engines are the same in them anyway so make them more appealing by adding a variety of sheet metal.

Lewis, I have a bushel basket of Case parts that I was planning on turning into a LLSS under the 1690 sheet metal. If you would be interested in talking some details or maybe picking up the core project to get started (I am the victim of the 24 hour day) give me a call. Carl Downs 217-714-7301.

What Rear end?

Re: David Btown LLSS June 26, 2017 07:02AM
It is from a 401b Case.
If interested, call me and I can give you more details of the other parts as well.

Re: David Btown LLSS June 26, 2017 07:18AM
Won't hold, I wrecked an 800.

Re: David Btown LLSS June 26, 2017 07:28AM
Have run through the parts books and it appears to share most of the parts from 930,1030,870,970 etc. All the bull & pinion and any trans parts are equivalent to any 1750/1850 Oliver. Don't see what wouldn't hold. Where did yours fail?

Re: David Btown LLSS June 26, 2017 08:25AM
The rear end housing, use the Comfort King housing, 150lbs heavier than the 400/800.

Re: David Btown LLSS June 26, 2017 02:05AM
I looked into a 990 DB for an econo mod rearend once opon a time. I think I would stay away from that rear and go with the usual. The way that the 990 was the axle shaft that drives the bull gear is very small and it would likely get smoked pretty quickly. We had a case 1490 (I think thats what it was)at one time,it was a good farm tractor but it looked like the rear was very similar to the 990.

Re: David Btown LLSS June 26, 2017 09:53AM
Ive worked on several of the David Browns and the rear would be to weak I'm thinking on a black IH chassis underneath with the 1690 white hood and the David brown decals since the David browns was a part of the CASE and Case IH line a 358 german sounds like the engine I would go with since ive already done the cummins the Hercules and the DT360 and 361 engines Mark H burst my bubble on Deutz with all the modifications that has to be done to the trans and rear .But I could stick the Deutz hood and engine in a 1800 oliver

Re: David Btown LLSS June 27, 2017 05:19AM
Or they could get with the times and allow components. Then the rear and transmission wouldn't be a determining factor.

Re: David Btown LLSS June 27, 2017 05:23AM
ORRR.....we could leave the tractors as tractors and let LSS have components. There is no need for a 1500 HP 6000 pound component tractor period!

Re: David Btown LLSS June 27, 2017 05:32AM
That's true. Because spending thousands of dollars on an 1800 Oliver rear end with a Deutz engine and hood is much more "tractor" than a component chassis.

Re: David Btown LLSS June 27, 2017 09:26AM
Now building a David brown on diesel with intercooler would be impressive and thinking outside the box

Re: David Btown LLSS June 27, 2017 01:36PM
Well I have asthma so breathing all that smoke is just not good and ive done five smokless so I better stick to that

Re: David Btown LLSS June 28, 2017 09:09AM
I like the methanol burning Deutz idea the best. There is no reason why it wouldn't work.

Re: David Btown LLSS June 28, 2017 02:35PM
I don't know if it will hold but I have a 1490 and a 990 db come down and we can make this project happen, or maybe some other concoction from my pile of scraps.
