5000 ford December 04, 2017 02:24PM
I know there is a fast and slow Set of planetary but what is the % difference in the two? Thanks!!

Re: 5000 ford December 04, 2017 03:57PM
A 5000 only came with 4.5:1. A 7740 sle 16x16 has 6.0:1 they are 3 pin planetaries the 6 cylinders have 4 pin planetaries well the 8240 and 8340 do, not 100 percent sure about 7840 it may only be 3 pin.

Re: 5000 ford December 05, 2017 12:48PM
my old 555 back hoe will go like a raped ape in 4th gear... is there a different pinion and crown gear? or the planetaries?

Re: 5000 ford December 05, 2017 02:47PM
they made a 4.11 ratio ring gear and pinion which would make your 555 backhoe go fast I no of a 5.28 and one in the 6 s u may have the fast one was a option

Re: 5000 ford December 05, 2017 03:33PM
Your 555 has a 4000 rearend which also has 4.5 planetaries, they made 3.50, 4.11, 4.625, 6,16, and 6.67 not sure what you have but the 8 speeds used the 3.50 ring and pinion.

Re: 5000 ford December 09, 2017 04:14AM
Blues brother have you seen the classifieds on here ? 5000 parts. When I pulled our 4320 I pulled against a very strong Ford utility. Not sure if it was a 5000 but I'm pretty sure it was out of NY. There was a narrow front end one that was real strong too. Of course all the ones Forresters had a hand in were all super strong tractors in the "stock" classes.

Re: 5000 ford December 12, 2017 04:36AM
So, did the 5000's with the select-o-speed use the same rear end as the tractors with the straight 8 speed?

Re: 5000 ford December 12, 2017 01:44PM
Same rearend but different ring and pinion, sos used a 6,67 and 8 speed used 5.28.

Re: 5000 ford December 12, 2017 03:27PM
Did they offer different ring and pinions for row crops vs utilities?

Re: 5000 Ford December 13, 2017 09:57AM
These are all questions I am looking for answers too.
I have a 7000 chassis my fastest gear is around a 19:1 using the Hi-Lo over drive gear setup.
I need to have an 18:1 and 17:1 just out of gears right now.
I bought a 3.50:1 ring and pinion brand new but concerned about running it in reverse.....
What would the end result be in final drive ratios be if I did install the 3.50:1
Has anyone done it and it worked?
I would have to think there is a difference between row crop and utility since both have different tire sizes..
Has anyone ever made the Hi-Lo over drive gears to give it more than the standard 1 over 8th?

There are many options out there for the 8000-TW transmission.

Ford has the most efficient transmission when you can go in through the top shaft and right out the bottom.

Re: 5000 Ford December 13, 2017 10:08AM
15.75 to 1

Re: 5000 Ford December 14, 2017 03:22AM
Not quite..... Really????? In the top and down and out the bottom through 1 set of gears is not the most efficient??
I guess I am a dumb ass.

Curt yes an Atlas Max is prabably a viable option. It's just with the back gears to get down to the bottom shaft creates more gears to drive. Taking away from efficiency. But then again not quite will tell me differently.

The Kecks transmission for the 8000 trans is very nice in down and out. But according to not quite that's inefficient.

Also with the Max I am not sure yet if it will fit under my floor.

In the top out the top is direct drive, most efficient transfer of power you can get. Dropping thru one set of gears only would be next. Didn't mean to offend anyone.

Re: 5000 Ford December 14, 2017 07:37AM
Not quite, that is quite correct if it does go straight through. However most do not as direct is too slow.
So in turn they go in over to a counter shaft and then back to the main shaft. Thus being not optimal.

Offended no...... interpretation of what was meant is what was in question.

Re: 5000 Ford December 14, 2017 08:57AM
Agreed, most tractors don't.

Re: 5000 Ford December 14, 2017 11:58AM
Your keck is the most efficient in 5tth,6th,7th,8th and 8.5 gear all your other gears are not near as efficient and would be equal to the atlas max in every gear except direct. The last 5000 trans I had was a two speed Keck and it worked well but I still didn't have enough gears.

Re: 5000 Ford December 13, 2017 10:41AM
The most efficient transmission goes in and out the top shaft

Re: 5000 Ford December 13, 2017 12:23PM
I have a set of half gears that that are .756 ratio which would give you a 17.96 gear with 5.28 ring and pinion. The utility tractor and the row crop tractors used the same ring and pinion. My advice would be call atlas and get you an atlasmax 3 or 5 speed and use the 5.28 ring and pinion in your s rearend and get you some good synthetic oil in the rear and go pulling. I ran a 4.625 backwards for years and never had an issue but they are expensive and they are designed for a backhoe so you will have to design a coupler and its not ideal. if you spend money on ring and pinions and different half gears you will still only have a single gear that you can use and you will have spent a good bit of the money that you could have spent on the atlasmax.

Re: 5000 Ford December 14, 2017 01:31AM
In stock form how much hp can a 5000 transmission handle?

Re: 5000 Ford December 14, 2017 11:50AM
Well in 8th gear maybe 500-600, 7th gear maybe 400. that's kind of hard to say for sure but that's my guess. the problem is 8th gear is around 20:1 so you will need to be pretty lite or small rubber to run that gear. if you Install a half gear they will take 2000hp+.

Re: 5000 Ford December 14, 2017 12:20PM
Pardon my ignorance, but why do the half gears gain you 14-1500 hp in terms of strength. I have a 5000 rear out of a tractor that had a sos in it and am trying to figure out how best to mate it to a 6.6 block to run in 6000-6500 lb classes with 18.4 tire limitations... thoughts?

Re: 5000 Ford December 14, 2017 02:04PM
Just because they are custom made gears that are newer, wider and stronger material.

Re: 5000 Ford December 14, 2017 02:19PM
I run stock 8th 20.4:1. LLSS 6400lbs alcohol cummins 24.5 double cut pullers well over 1200 hp. broke ring gear and chipped pinion but no problems with stock 8th gear.

Re: 5000 Ford December 15, 2017 12:40AM
A lot depends on the weight class you want to run if going to use a 5000 style transmission, can get half gears that go on & replace the low side range gears, that will give you 7th at 31-1, 7 1/2 at 27-1, 8th at 20-1, and 8 1/2 at 18-1, but would not recommend for over 6500lbs if running close to 1000hp, and if wanting to run 7th gear you will need to install a front steel plate as with the stress the oem plate will not hold and let the two shafts separate in the front, the weight class has a big factor on durability. 8th & 8 1/2 are the strongest, if going to be using 7th & 7 1/2 I would be looking at other options.
