Which of the 6cyl JD gas heads are the best flowing for open rpm gas,I have a R34990 and a R26040R and dont no what they came off of are there better are theryre better? THANKS

By casting number they are essentially the very same head....I can't honestly say that one is better than the other (haven't studied them that closely).

These fit 4010 gas (302 CI) and early 4020 gas (341 CI). These were used up to 1969/serial #201000. Also found on 105 combine gas engines (341 CI).These are referred to as the "wide" block. The top of the block and the head physically measure wider than the later model. Gas and diesel heads of this vintage will interchange, the bolt pattern and head gasket is identical.

After serial #201000 all blocks/heads were narrower. This included the gas engine (362 CI). Gas and diesel heads of this vintage will interchange as well.

Wide and narrow blocks/heads don't exactly interchange.....despite the bolt pattern being the same.

What are you planning to build/use them on?

I have talked to the person who wants the head he has 3 or 4 heads mentioned There suppose to be one that flows better than others and has a smaller combustion chamber he has a 404 combine engine

Sorry, I honestly can't answer that. If you have both types casting number, then cc the chamber with water and find out. Same for ports. If any head had "better" flow and/or smaller chamber, i would guess it would likely be the later model ('69 and later).

The narrow head can be used on the wide block. You must make a "spacer" to go on the right hand or pushrod side to keep oil in. The narrow head has better port design and a smaller chamber. that is the best head to use on a gas puller. I recommend using the wide block so you have the governor hole on the LH side then put the narrow head on. Any questions call or email me

I have a couple LLSS projects going on for winter , I do several heads a year and may be able to help.Also anyone wanting to get into the llss class i can do complete engines set fuel up for alcohol only dont no anything about diesel without some ridiculous price

I have done enough heads at this point I don't need a flow bench I have access to a flow bench for anyone who wants numbers cost is 100$ lve had several flowed I do them for the class your pulling not for the big number but if the big number is what you insist on that's not a problem call me sometime 270 566 2901 several that gets on here I've done

Thats what i may do,I done two Late model gas heads for a JD here in KY thats been doing really well this year one for a spare after it went to the dyno but after looking at the diesel head i may give it a try

I have an JD 8.1 Nat gas head with swirl dams removed and plates brazed in. Was flowed before this was done, had some port work and only flowed 228.
2 cyl head people thought the swirl dams should be removed to take it up to 350 ish when done.
It now needs to be re assembled and a valve seats touched up or made bigger.
I got out of pulling. will sell for $500.00 ph. 570-430-2586
