The NTPA has outlawed the 903 Cummins engine in the open super stock class because it was never used in a 2 wheel drive tractor.
How come in the prostock class can John Deere run the 619 block that was never put in a 2 wheel drive tractor?

Re: V8 engines March 16, 2019 12:36AM
Because it is offered as a replacement engine for the 531 by John Deere

Re: Examples of legal v8 engines March 16, 2019 01:49AM
Perkins, Cat. There are others.

Somebody else might have more knowledge of this, but the 619 and the 531 are both big blocks, from what I've been told it's not really difficult to get a 531 to 680 cubes. So even if they did outlaw actual 619's guys could just use the 531.

What I don't understand is why you can mismatch the block and the sheet metal. There's examples of this both ways. Not picking on any one brand or puller, I'm just wondering. I would've just assumed that you would have to match block to sheet metal.

Re: V8 engines March 16, 2019 02:54AM
As a purist, mixing the sheet metal and the brand of engine block seems arbitrary. However I see the need to incorporate additional colors to the class beyond the red vs green debate.

On the other hand, if folks are going to complain about a green engine under red paint, then they should have a dog in the fight. Otherwise let the rest of us be entertained and enjoy the class.

And ask anyone in the crowd if they care what engine is under the hood and they will tell you to sit down, so they can see that 10 Pro MM, Oliver, or Valtra on the track.

Re: V8 engines March 16, 2019 08:49AM
I can't believe we need to explain this yet again......the crankshaft from a 619 will swing in a stock 531 block. 619/531 are the same engine "family". Why is this a difficult concept to understand? If you are having to de-cube it to fit in a class, then I can see an argument. Otherwise, what exactly is your point?

Re: V8 engines March 16, 2019 02:37AM
What I don't understand is how you can let guys spend hundreds of thousands of dollars and pull with a motor for years, and then ban them?

My "BIG DOGG" in heat just lays on the proch and never gets beat up.wins every battle, the girls come to Him and entertains the heighborhood with growls, grunts and whiney sounds, just like here. -- now that's funny right there matey. Oh and He is a Bigg block, colors not breed correct.

Re: V8 engines March 16, 2019 04:58AM
like to hear how pierre got it approved in the first place

Re: V8 engines March 16, 2019 10:06AM
Gray area in the rulebook I believe. If I remember correctly, they were building it after the okay, when ATPA said it wouldn't be allowed. Was only legal for SN/GN/GA/Champions tour anyway.

Re: V8 engines March 16, 2019 12:21PM
When we decided to build the 903, the rule was that the engine must be a farm equipment engine. So at that time we also looked to use a cat 3306 or even a 3406 witch were both 6 inline engine. So I don't understand why nobody never tried to build one of those big Cat or Cummins L10 or 855 as all were use in some farm equipment Winking

Re: V8 engines March 16, 2019 03:31PM
Pierre or Patrice, how many years of development did that decubed 903 take before its pulling event debut?
What year did you debut the V-8?
Was that in the 7240 originally Or always as the STX500?

Re: V8 engines March 17, 2019 05:11AM
A parts man at JD or IH would have laughed there ass off if a farmer would have came in and ask for that factory replacement 466 for there 4020 John or that 466 for for that 966.Yes they fit the cranks swing but from the dealer Nope know updated parts books out there and no micro fish and no service bulletiins

Re: V8 engines March 17, 2019 06:51AM
I do know several guys that bought the factory replacement 359T for their 4020’s ! Didn’t swing the same crank, but was a factory replacement

Re: V8 engines March 17, 2019 12:47PM
KNOW WAY the 359 whas a German engine built for the later model tractors not saying they didnt buy them and install them in there 4020 I bought and installed a 4bt cummins in a farmall m and istalled a 6080 AC engine in a 69 chevy short bed pickup those were as close to being a factory replacement as any of this other crap With that said.I could really give a crap less about this so called factory replacement junk been hearing it for years

Re: V8 engines March 17, 2019 03:31PM
I don't know about an IH but do know that John Deere produced engine repower manuals and guidelines that did recommend these engines for repower swaps. I have used these manuals working for the John Deere dealerships and probably can find you a copy. Repower went out when emissions came in. As far as I am concerned saying a 619 engine should not be used in a 5020/6030 tractor would be the same as saying a 466 IH truck engine should not be used in a 966/1066. Bet you won't win that argument! When the smaller cube 404 or 531 engine can be modified to end up at the same cube (466/619) anyway what difference does it really make? None.

John Deere never made a 414 that I know of. I've seen plenty of 466's dropped in 4020's. I've never heard of a problem.

Yeah they did

Re: V8 engines March 18, 2019 11:08AM
I can go along with repower kit not factory replacement Cummins PERKINS A bunch of companys offered re power kits As i said befof i dont really care at this point in. Pulling i feel like the any engine UNDER any hood on what ever chassis in all classes is the only way to go theres know such thing as a purist class anymore And no such thing as these so called factory replacements .re power kits yes and whats it really matter

Re: V8 engines March 18, 2019 11:37AM
Why bother with the sheetmetal then?

Re: V8 engines March 18, 2019 12:27PM
Pretty sure the cranks wont interchange in the 404 to 414,the 414 are 4 valve heads I think too

Re: V8 engines March 18, 2019 01:08PM
The 414 later replaced by the 6.8 was then later updated to four valve heads and high pressure common rail fuel systems.Used today in current model John Deere tractors.

Re: V8 engines March 18, 2019 01:01PM
The 414 John Deere engine was a 300 series engine not a 400 series like the 404 and was most often used in industrial equipment in it early versions. Used in tractors and combines in later years.

Re: V8 engines March 18, 2019 01:17PM
John Deere never intended to use the 414 as a 404 / 4020 replacement. Like comparing a red engine to a green engine the 414 was a total different series being a Dubuque built 300 series engine the 404 being a Waterloo built 400 series engine. Nothing common in parts between them other than the color and manufacture.

Re: V8 engines March 18, 2019 08:11AM
One could argue the whole time we pulled it... But it took two years before it fired if that's what your question is. Jeff and crew finished the true development of what we started and hats off to them. And it was in the STX component from the get go. The 7240 was a 1066 tractor chassis.

Not to beat a dead horse but the rule was not grey or off white when we built it. It clearly said in the NTPA rule book any ag engine could be used in the GN SS classes only. But it probably makes some people feel better to think that we bent the rule back then.

Re: V8 engines March 17, 2019 03:29AM
The 619 to a 531 is the same as the 466 is to the 404 John Deere engines. The 619 used the 531 block that was over bored to make the 619. The 531 like the 404, the smaller bore engines were then faded out. The larger bore engines were used as replacements for the discontinued smaller counter part engines. The 404 had same stroke as the 466 and the 531 had same stroke as the 619. John Deere also had a large 955 cube V8 that was used in its four wheel dive model farm tractors that would not be allowed to use in the NTPA rule classes. I know most JD people know this but, obviously there is others that do not. Hope this helps clear the air. DW

I just "BROKE WIND",or "CUT THE CHEESE" not much clear air here, let's go pulling instaead of everyone bickering and whining.

The Challenger 800E track tractor has a v-12. Would that be legal, only has two tracks.
