Firestone 23 or 20.8.42 BFG? August 02, 2020 01:01PM
I have a set of Firestone 23 and BFG 20.8.42. I pull at 8-15 MPH, which set would be better?

I cant Tell you what’s better but I can tell you what iv noticed between the 2. Just depending on your tractor and what kinds of tracks you will be pulling on. I started out with bfg like most of the guys in our 12mph class and then switched to 23 degrees. A few guys still run bfgs but most have gravitated towards the Firestone’s. I noticed for starters the bfgs are slightly taller so you’ll get a lil bit more speed. But when the sled starts laying on u they start slipping quicker do to the bar angle, but on a a hard track they will slice in and get ahold. The 23s I have to say probably give a more consistent bite across all tracks. And with a 23 you can get away with less lug. To start with I’d widen ur rims to 22in.

I just want to be correct, you do mean widening to 22in and not 20in? That wasn't a typo or anything?

Yes I mean widen to 22”. Get that tire ballooned out. With wider rim it will help get more consistent contact preassure across the whole foot print of the tire rather then running a lower psi and Letting the tire flex. It’s forcing that tire to square off and have flat bottom rather then relying all on psi.

The only issue I see with that is if the rim is too wide, the center point may come down. Yes, you want the full face of the tire in the dirt, but driving the center point is the most important part.
