534 ford truck motor September 07, 2020 01:56PM
I have a 534 ford truck motor out of a 71 Cabover ford 900 what’s the good and bad on this motor?

Don't know what kind of care it has had, but they were known to be a very reliable long lived engine for a heavy duty gasoline application. They used lots of gas, but where a 427 Chevy truck motor was more or less done at 100K in a dump truck, the Ford Super-Duty would run 250 to 300K.

My experience with 2 of them are the same - running bearcats with power & torque. Really good longevity. Downside, as with any large motor for the era, is gas consumption.

Parts availability for them is slim to none these days

Theres a light mod tractor in my area that some years ago ran a 534 Ford truck engine with a turbo...He did all his own work and had very little money in the tractor...It ran pretty decent for what it was..I'm sure that its still in his shed.

they made a 534 called the super sea master. It was a twin turboed intercooler marine motor

That would be interesting, I wonder how big the super sea masters gas tank was?
