i,m looking for a gear reduction starter for a 456 ford , what should i use ? thanks

I used the 474 not the 456 but I bought my First gear reduction starter from a trusted NH dealer. Parts man Carl in Washington CH Ohio at Baxla Tractor. He could look up parts with out a SN. Hard to find now.
If you don't want to go that direction, Ebay is your friend, in that case. Buy 2 and after the first one burns out keep a spare in the trailer. Part# on the one I have is KN16H2. We only went through 2 of them over the years. I had the NH one rebuilt. The disconnect switch was the issue with both of the starters.
