4010 or 4020 housing for a 3 speed build October 11, 2021 01:13AM
How much heavier is the 4020 housing compared to the 4010 housing or another question would the 4010 housing hold up fine for 3 speed in LLSS?

I cannot speak for actual weight differences, but the 4010 holds up fine. I know of several of them in LLSS class. Heck one is a 4010 LP and it holds up just fine as well.

A 4010 LP, Gas, and Diesel rear end are the same. A 1961 4010 rear end is lighter than a 62 or 63, the difference is in the axle housings, they are thinner in the area where they bolt to the transmission so the planetary is a little lighter as well. I know of a few LLSS tractors using early 4010 rearends.
