Should Pro Stocks be allowed to run 30.5s? March 22, 2023 12:50AM
In order to differentiate Pro Stocks from the other iterations (light pro/limited pro/ even the 5.0 Regional pro), should the Pro Stocks be allowed to run 30.5 tires?

That would add a visible difference from the other forms of Pro Stock. They certainly have the power to effectively use the 30.5s.

NO!!!! Not unless they're willing to loose 2,000 lbs!

Re: ? for Logam March 22, 2023 01:26AM
Logan, I've heard the setting for a twd is about the same as for a 3-engine mod because of hitch height.

How does the sled setting differ between a twd/RN mod and a pro stock?
Would 30.5s on a pro stock mean only one extra block on the sled?

Re: ? for Logam March 22, 2023 03:18AM
I don't agree with 2wd settings being the same as a 2-3 engine RN mod class. The tire size makes the difference depending on the tracks. Maybe on a hard track they might be close, but it depends on how good of a RN mod class you have too. I usually run 2wd with 7 weights on the sled mostly with the trip all the way forward, usually run 8-10 with a RN mod with the trip quite a bit further back. Pro Stocks vary quite a bit, but comparing to GN/CT pro stocks, minimum 10 weights average, a gear faster & block the box out further. Pro stocks are muscle machines nowadays, the power & traction will yank a sled pretty hard.

30.5s on a pro stock?? In the words of the great Sheriff Buford T. Justice

No, that’s what makes it what it is it’s nice to have power but it’s more fun to see who is actually smart enough to be able to apply it either through driving or set up, besides that everyone has already blown their nuts out on 5 different sets of 24.5s to try to compete or fit in.

I probably depends upon whose 30.5's are mandated as the tire for the Pro Stock division....(read as whomever sponsors the class in NTPA)...

At that point, what, other than a single exhaust would distinguish a PS from a SS?

Fair question, but for most casual fans, what would distinguish a Pro from a 5.0/limited/light/super farm now?

Not to hyjack this thread but, bein as we're talking about pro stocks and 30.5s,I for one would love to see one of Cains motors in Esdens 460 and just see how it would do in the Light Super Stock Class, with enough gear it would be interesting.

It would be an interesting experiment, but if it was even legal why would we have classes at all? That’s basically combining 3 rule sets, not saying it wouldn’t preform but it just muddies the waters for a situation where there are already plenty of (maybe too many) options, but yes hypothetically it would work I think.

Tomah Winner, wrong answer.
The fact is the sport needs to appeal to the fans in the stands. After a while it just becomes a tractor parade.
They all go the roughly the same distance down the track at almost the same speed. Something should be visually different. Not every fan is a pulling expert.

Just thinking that it would/could get diesel back in light super stock, gets really old watching Blackburn pretty much dominate.

The fore mentioned 460 LSS will be returning to the class for the upcoming season!

Great, glad to hear the 460 will be back in the LIGHT SUPER STOCK CLASS !!!!!

Maybe it's the trash can-size exhaust pipes the pro stocks are running?

Also, why do we need to keep "distinguishing" the differences between Light Pro, Limited Pro, 5.0 Pro, and Pro Stock? If you don't know the difference, ASK A PULLER! Simple as that! They allow you to travel around the pits, so do that. Quit trying to change everything.

STOP WITH THIS BS WORRY ABOUT A TRUE DIFFERENCE MAKE A DIFFERENCE March 23, 2023 11:27AM
No leave it alone pro classes have 24.5s and super classes have 30.5s DO NOT CHANGE IT. No reason for it talking about trying to identify a 5.0 and big pro and light pro/limited pro you can tell a difference just by the rpm and hp when they run everyone cry’s well the avg fan can’t tell the two apart yes they can and if they can’t they go to one pull a year at the local fair anybody that goes to more then just there county fair pull is not and average fan. I mean we have gotten along for 40-50 years there’s no reason to start this crap well pros can’t hook up and they need more traction no they don’t that makes it a driver/setup problem then you put 30s on it won’t change @#$%& have some common cents people it will be the exact same they will all do the same thing they do now pull the sled as far as they can you don’t see top fuel and funny cars running the same body’s bc there needs to be variety of looks and so on leave everything alone worry about getting money into the sport vs spending more to do the exact same thing… pull the farthest that’s it that’s all there doing let’s get some sponsor money going how about instead of worrying about 30s on a pro or omg the classes are to alike wah wah the avg fan blah blah just shut up and start coming up with things that truly will change or help the sport money wise plain and simple worry about brining more money to the sport and pullers and sponsor that is the number 1 thing everyone that loves pulling should be doing stop arguing about something that mean’s absolutely not a damn thing.

I was simply pointing out that your suggested solution to an existing problem would be to create the same problem in a different way...
