Region 3 super semi
|
I have looked at the number and seen that there are lots of Semis In mn Wisconsin area. Why isn't there are region 3 semi class. It could be super semi and pro stock mixed or just super semi. There are 15 semis that I know of in MN, WI, IA. Six of them are registered GN so you have about 9 semis that might pull. Some of these semis we haven't seen a while but I'm pretty sure they are still around. Most semi turnout at GN events isn't super high either so Id expect to have about 6 or so semis. Just an idea I had and just wanted to put it out there. My numbers may be incorrect. |

There aren't many region 3 pulls anymore. Most of the pulls are state level pulls. There are a small handful of semis that compete on the state level in Mn. Some of the NTPA GN competitors also pull with PPL. I don't think many pullers would be able to chase points on a state level as well. There are a several rigs that I haven't seen in a few years around the area so I don't know what became of them. |

I know there are trucks around but they don't come out. The last few years in Tomah WI they only had 3 trucks if I remember correctly. Used to be the class everyone wanted to see but it lost it's support from the pullers for some reason. Hopefully all 6 show up this year would be nice to see a bigger class of them. I miss the old days with all the semis.
When I was at a WTPA event I thought they said all the WTPA state pulls were region 3 events last year. Sad to see the Region 3/WTPA struggle with events. They used to be the premier group to see in this area. |

That is incorrect on the WTPA and Region 3 statement. WTPA has six standalone state events and hopefully will have two more next year. WTPA and Region 3 isn't struggling, they just don't need 50 regional events like Region 2 has, the 20 or so sessions are plenty. Also untrue is the amount of semis in Tomah the last few years, 10 signed up but rained out in 21, 6 in 22 and 5 in 23 yes numbers have been down but that’s still double of what’s being said . |

The state only sees two semis consistently with a couple other ones that are hit and miss. It is a fun class to watch. I'd love to see more come in and so would the crowds. There is a good number of semis in the state at different levels, it would be cool to have a few of them jump to the state level! Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/29/2024 07:47AM by Oly. |

Tiger Reis has a few yet. He hasn't pulled on a circuit for a while but I've seen him pull at The Big Iron Classic a few years ago. |

My bad, of the 8 registered there were 5 that showed last year but only 2 made it past 300, 3rd place was 100 feet back and it dropped from there and 1 truck wasn't a regular puller it was one of the drag race trucks (nothing against him it was cool looking the truck over). Not much of a show. I miss the days when you had 10 trucks and they set the sled to get half in the pull off then weighing the sled down and making them work for the win.
I know there are trucks out there they just don't show up for whatever reason. I remember one of them a few years back saying the class is going to struggle because the pullers quit supporting the class for what ever reason and tried calling out the other guys. However you look at it the super semi class is a shadow of what it used to be and isn't the draw for spectators it used to be because of the poor showing and lack of numbers at events. I hate saying it because it used to be my favorite class. Eventually were going to have to stop and visit why the semis are struggling and the unlimited mods are struggling and fix it. The 2 classes that set apart the Grand national from the regional state levels and they aren't jaw dropping anymore. |

I'm spit balling here, but would there be any benefit it doing like a limited pro stock semi class at the state or region level to take the place of the state pro stocks semis? |

There is already a good group of semis that compete on the weekends at brush pulls. I don't know if most of these guys would commit to running a circuit that would have them traveling several hours each way to compete during a work week. If they did they probably would already have added the class. |

I was at the Corcoran Lions Pull and the semi turnout was great. The super semis that I saw were Rooster owned by Luke Cornelius, Holy Smokes owned by Lonny sailor,
Big Red(1987 Mack Superliner) Owned by Chet Schug, and Clessie Owned by Scott Cornelius. There were a bunch of other Semis that were pro stock and some that were closer to stock. I think there would be great turnout at some events In mn like Anoka or Houston. I am Guessing UPM may have a couple more semis in Jordan Because it is now a Region 3 Pull but maybe not because fort Recovery has semis that day. Take into note that The 15 or so Semis in Corcoran weren't all Ntpa certified up to tech safety. |

Updated UPM schedule is posted on UPM website.. Anoka does not have Semis there they havent for years. and Jordan semis are changed to Pro Stock semis now.. |

Re: Region 3 super semi

I wasn’t saying that Anoka or Houston had those classes but was saying that if they did there would be good turnout. Sad to see Jordan go to pro stock semi. |

Re: Region 3 super semi

So does that mean the upm super semi class is gone? it is sad to see that considering Minnesota has so many super semis. Hopefully they will hook next year. |

Super Semis and Pro Stock Semis are essentially the same thing now. It was different when the semis use to run the multi-charger setup, but now most only run a single charger. Lonny Sailor and Chet Schug both ran the Pro Stock Semi class with UPM last year. Brent Yaron Hooked Up Pulling Productions hookeduppullingproductions@gmail.com |

It never really existed at the state level. If you want to see them go to Hutch this weekend, Tomah next weekend and Rockwell in August. If you want to see a good semi pull with a lot of hooks go to Kasson, MN for the Big Iron pull in September. |

Brent you are incorrect, UPM runs a Pro stock semi class with a 4.5 turbo limit. Neither Lonny nor Chet are legal for the Pro stock semi class in MN. Luke Kedrowski and Darrin Dietzel were the two running PS Semis last year. They will throw in the super semis and just call the class SEMI in the results but there not pulling for points.
