Where is the safety

First off I want to say the pull I went to in Central illinois yesterday had a great turn out, one of the biggest crowds I have seen for a brush pull for an out of stater that was pretty cool, seemed like over 200 hooks and a class for everyone. But the lack of safety equipment on the open speed limit classes was laughable. I think the only required thing was wheely bars.half the tractors didn't have rollover bars not a single one had clutch blankets or front skies. And for tractors making I am guessing 1200+ hp they all still ran cast wheels. Wouldnt you want weld on hubs and steel wheels at that point? And seat belts seemed optional. For tractors going 23-26mph I can't see how promoters allow this to happen seems like an accident waiting to happen. It seemed like the speed limit classes had more safety requirements then the open tractors. |

The Original PPL

That group of guys are known as the original PPL. Pearhead Pulling League where safety doesn’t matter only your name. Safety costs money, that wouldn’t be fair to the guys that want to bring their tractors out to their hometown pull once a year. Lots of alcohol consumed before during and after competition! |

Good to know. I heard about the pull advertised while I was watching at the county fair and decided I would come over and check it out since i was free and had only been to 2 pulls all year and was just surprised. Even their modified trucks lacked fire suits for how hot they seemed to run |

That’s why it’s brush pull rules don’t matter much and look for what they are pulling for 25$ to Win maybe 100 if lucky. That’s why a lot have moved to an organization where safety is enforced and rules are followed. |

I'll agree with that 100% |

Face in crowd

There's one of those pulls close to me that I've attended in the past. People sit probably 15' from the track in lawn chairs. Just a single cable barrier in between. It's one of those pulls that I try to sit as far away as possible and hope for the best. |

So I did some research on that pull. Factory rpm's. If can run in a field all day and night at that rpm's then why need blankets? Most of them only pull that weekend and the following. Low budget. And lots of fun. I have been a few times. Very enjoyable to watch with all those classes. And with all those hooks with one sled very timely |
