A quick observation from the stands.
The blue shirts once again ran an absolutely flawless show. I think most people praise them and they still don't get the recognition they deserve. Ken Veney's wins were the highlights of the weekend for me. The crowd giving him and Rona praise Saturday night as they made their way to the winners circle was awesome to see. On the South side it seems that no matter what session and no matter which random people I was sitting by the constant complaint against the pull was the class sizes. If you limit the BG class sizes it changes the whole pull. But on the flip side it would make the show faster and keep people in the stands. I don't know it seems like a lose lose situation to me. But the complaints were loud and plentiful about this topic. Shout out to Billy Biers for going on a rant months ago on the No Practice Podcase about how the Unlimited class needs to run at the beginning of the show. It seems someone at Pulltown heard him and changed the lineup. I appreciated that change. |

It was not flawless. At no time should 2 vehicles ever go down the two tracks at the same time. They were doing this as soon as the 3rd vehicle in one of the sessions.
This is a safety issue and needs to stop. As an aside, it also messes up the broadcast they are trying to build with Full Pull. "Race tractors" shouldn't be a thing. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 08/21/2024 01:04AM by The Original Michael. |

I would disagree, I think the occasional drag race is pretty entertaining from a spectator standpoint. And with the amount of space between the tracks at BG I don’t see it as a huge safety concern. |

One of the problems with running them side by side is now you have longer to wait for the next hook. Alternating allow the fans to have a shorter time waiting for the next vehicle to go down the track. Dick Morgan www.PULLOFF.com Independent Pulling News |

So....

Who cares what Full Pull is doing??? They shouldn't change a show just because it "messes up the broadcast they are trying to build with Full Pull." It's not Full Pulls show!! |

Overall, I thought it was a pretty good pull. I do think a couple classes such as the 2 Wheel Dr. trucks and the mini rods are getting a little over the top with numbers. Now granite, I am a smoke not a noise guy, but I really don’t wanna watch 60 of anything. I remember way back when when the super class would get over 70 I like tractors and that was too many. To me about 40 to 45 should be the cut off you get more than that and it takes a lot of beer to sit there and watch it. I guess I was the only other thing that I didn’t like was how many times they run the smoke and noise classes side-by-side , when you do that all you can hear the noise I like to hear a wind up and I couldn’t really hear that. But I know there is a lot of classes and you gotta take the good with the bad finally I thought I would hate all the new rules this year , as far as the lawn chairs and the campground, it was fine. It didn’t bother me overall. It was a very good weekend. |

I heard someone talking about running a elimination round on Wednesday and Thursday morning/afternoon. The idea was to have classes with more that 25-30 to qualify for the actual show. NTPA percommited would get an automatic bye. Dick Morgan www.PULLOFF.com Independent Pulling News |

NQS garden tractor pulling runs heats and then takes normally top 7 to the finals for usually a 21 tractor field. maybe more, maybe less depending on the numbers. could easily take the field of let's say 40 tractors split it between the sessions and have the "finals" run on Saturday night. |

While I'm ok leaving BG as is regarding large classes, one option is adding a Thursday afternoon session, with light mods running their first hook then also. There would be some shuffling of classes.
Maybe shut the pre-entry off 2 weeks before the pull. Any class above x # of entries would use the old Tomah Super Farm system below. For sake of argument, let's use 40 in a class as a cutoff. Back when Tomah would get huge super farm numbers, they divided the field between GN and non-GN licensed tractors, with 3 total hooks. 1st hook - non GN vehicles 2nd hook - GN vehicles plus odd place finishers from 1st hook 3rd hook - GN vehicles plus even place finishers from 1st hook. Regarding the ring, there are ways that could be done but would take longer to type out. Edited 5 time(s). Last edit at 08/21/2024 05:24AM by The Original Michael. |

Iin the early to mid eighty I loved watching 40+ of everything simply because there was a great variety of all brands of hooded tractors representing the classes, not every single tractor being 400 series based and red or green...the mods were awesome with over a dozen different types of powerplnts, and not many frame/fender designs looking close..the trucks had a huge variety of powerplants used too..
Sounds like most of us liked those days better in general, and know there not coming back too.. But if it wasn't a red/green show and a hemi show, none of us would be complaining at all |

For the Super national type shows, I would like to see some sort of qualifier and the top XXX come back for Sat show. On Sat it could be noise for one show and smoke for the second show. 60 units in any class gets old after a while |

Those complaining about the high class numbers at BG, just stay at home and go to your local brush pull, that way you can be at home at 9:30pm to get your beauty sleep. |

A few years ago Tomah had 70 some twd. Don't get me wrong I love the TWD class but that's way too many. That's all that ran on the one track both sessions. 3 other classes ran on the other. It got really boring after while. especially as the track changed and the distances fell way off. Not fair for the pullers or the fans watching. They need to come up with a way to let the pre commit or grand national points runners run both sessions then split the others to run along side in one session instead of both limiting the numbers. |

To narrow down the field in large classes just accept those that are competing for points and maybe the top 3-5 competitors in each region or circuit they compete in. Skip the ones that only pull once in a while. There is absolutely no need for pre-qualifing 1 or 2 days before the pull starts. The pre qualifying should be done during the season. |

But, under this logic, you would lose all the PPL PS competitors. No Tinker Toy, No River Rat, No El Niño, etc.,etc. Think of who you else you lose in the other divisions - No Bobcat Jr. team, no Midnight Raider, no Canadian teams, all the Nelson’s in 2WD. There’s been recent ring winners that wouldn’t even have been there!
Why not cap the class to “X” number? GN competition must meet a percentage of hooks attended prior to BG - not just signed up or hold a GN license. Then, have a “fill in the field” by the promoter, NFMS style. Then, you can still select those top runners from other sanctioning bodies with some promoters choices. No different than Louisville. So, the remaining field would have to submit a resume to the blue shirts for attending. |

Why not just leave it? It's the Super Bowl of pulling and it's the only event with these kind of numbers. I enjoy going to be able to see so many pullers I wouldn't normally get to see throughout the summer. Brent Yaron Hooked Up Pulling Productions hookeduppullingproductions@gmail.com |

This. If sitting through 60 twd is upsetting, there is always the option to get up and move around. Oh, by the way, while those 60 twd were running on one track, the other had modified, super stock/farm, and fwd classes. It's not as though it's a single track event. |
