The passing of Sid Broughton “Desperado” Unlimited SS. November 15, 2024 06:03AM
Sidney “Sid” Broughton, 74, of Silver Springs, N.Y., passed away peacefully on Nov. 3, 2024, with loving family by his side, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Sid was born Nov. 25, 1949, in Warsaw, N.Y., to Merritt W. Jr. and Helen (Chamberlain) Broughton. His childhood, spent alongside his older brothers on the family farm, instilled a lifelong passion for family, agriculture and red tractors. Soon after graduating from Letchworth Central School in 1967, he began a career in diesel mechanics which led to opening “Sid’s Repair” in 1972. Throughout his life, Sid was a hard worker and held various positions within mechanical and agricultural industries. He was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Silver Springs and had a deep faith in the Lord.

Sid loved tractor pulling; for as kind and humble as he was, he was highly respected both in the repair business and on the pulling track. A “Desperado” in the field, his knowledge and commitment led to much success on both the state and national levels. Many would agree that his contributions and advancements helped to shape the sport into what it is today. Sid’s family was by his side and shared in the love of tractor pulling serving various roles as pit crew, riding with him to and from pulls to keep him awake, and fulfilling roles within the pulling world. He served as president of the Western New York Tractor Pullers Association (WNYTPA) and Empire State Pullers (ESP). He was also involved with ATPA, Pro-Pulling League, NTPA, and Wolverine Pullers spanning over 60 years. Sid enjoyed traveling to Florida with his family, where he was able to relax, taking frequent trips to Dairy Queen, going on walks and bike rides, having cookouts, and playing badminton. He loved spending time with his family, especially his four grandsons teaching them how to fix things and demonstrated a strong work ethic.

Sid was a quiet and humble man. I go back to 1974 when meeting him and his 2 older brothers (Colin & Randy) as we were the young bucks in western NY pulling.
Over the decades, Sid was always polite, humble and respectful. Great attributes and legacy.
My sincere condolences to the family.
