John Deere 359 into 3010 build November 18, 2024 03:19PM
Swamp Buck
Has anyone ever put a jd 359 into a 3010? I'm looking to build for a 360 cubic inch, 6500lbs, 2.46 box turbo class. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

A 4050 back plate will join the 329/359/414 engine to the 3010 clutch housing. That one may be a little hard to find, I’ve heard that the 4030 back plate works too.

Not sure on your rules, but you may want to consider the 414 crank with the 329 bore. I believe that puts you in a similar CID and would have more of the torque you are going to want with that size turbo. It will be very close to the IH Ag 360 bore and stroke.

This is interesting, we have a class in western Pa for 360 in3 tractors, that has good participation across many manufacturers, but no John Deere machines. This would be a good recipe for a competitive John Deere in our class.

The biggest issues you will have is cylinder head air flow (cast into head intake manifold) and injector style (limits performance availability). Otherwise probably a great plan. 4030 back plate will work. Limited rpm/fuel/turbo will probably allow this combo to work reasonably well. Open rpm/larger turbo will be where the trouble starts.

Green is not my religion but didn't a previous discussion about using this engine mention
a cylinder head that did not have intake cast into cylinder head ? Doesn't Mother Deere
use similar engine in 300 hp row crop tractors ?

Yes, there was a combine engine that had a bolt on intake. The other option is to mill the side of the head off like the 5.9 Cummins pullers do. I’m not sure about injectors, can the 414 head with electronic injection be modified to accept a screw in or IH style injector?
