OSTPA MINI ROD

Does anyone know of a rough idea how many MINI'S or who would be "precommited" to running this year? I know OSTPA doesn't have a precommit list but figured there'd be a rough idea? |

Good chance to see at least 12-15 at each of their events on the schedule. |

Should draw 8-12 Mini tractors per show. Have OH, MI, IN, PA and NY to draw tractors into the state. |

All depends on how many are not going to chase NTPA region 2 points and how many of the blown small blocks in Ohio decide to go. |

Yuck

Blown small blocks would show up to pull against the big block hemis??? That would be like watching paint dry |

Re: OSTPA MINI ROD

To be honest
|
Honestly, I think a blown small block mini class would go over better than the "Hemi" class. a cheaper alternative to get guys into pulling on a bigger stage. |

Right about one thing, blown small block against a hemi is not even close!! I know first hand about that. second point about a blown sm blk cheaper to build than a hemi is not really true anymore, For the cost of a stout sm blk you can get a MBR hemi. |

How many total Blown Small Block Minis are running in Ohio? |

Amen.
One of the best rule changes ever implemented was when NTPA/NWOTPA banned the small blocks from trying to run at BG and gumming up the show. If it’s the big block class…keep it that way. |

Don't think there are more than 2 or 3 blown small blocks based out of Ohio. Should be fun to follow with Minis back on OSTPA tour for first time since 2002. |

Possible OSTPA MINI RODS

Possibilities

These 22 Minis are from Ohio, MI, PA, IN and NY. They may hit none or perhaps a few will hit all the OSTPA hooks, plus there are probably some new builds out there too?:

The only way the bulk of those mini's listed will hit the OSTPA circuit is if the timing of the pulls is perfect, and even then I'm not sure I see it. |

Stepchild's B*A*M won't make any OSTPA hooks--our setup does not meet PPL rules at this time. |

With the sounds of things, NTPA Region 2 will take a hit with their Mini count. Not do to OSTPA having the class, it's just that a majority of the RN2 tracks aren't favorable for the little tractors. Now the pullers have more options to head to tracks that won't be as hard on equipment. |

RN2 Hooks

In 2023, RN2 had 21 total Mini hooks. This year down to 11. Reason? |

As I stated before. Pullers are getting fed up with poor track conditions.
All one has to do is have the 4-H kids pick rocks for a bit and actually haul them away. Not just toss them to the side of the track. They always get worked back in after the event... |

There are reasons for the demie....the primary one in my opinion is when the region was split for Enderle selection pullers chose which sub region to chase and only supported that portion which cut the number of competitors in half. Twenty one hooks is a lot; most choose to run region because of the travel on the GN circuit then end up with more miles than a GN run. Also schedule and time was a factor...be at a Michigan hook one night . an Ohio hook the next and then back to a Michigan hook the next or a couple days later. Geography also...difficult for an Ohio or Indiana or Pennsylvania puller to make a 5-6 or more hour trip--Fort Wayne or Findlay Ohio to Morley Michigan is a haul. Then there is breakage and parts...hard to make a hook when you are broke as a lot were last year. It gets around to the promoters when only two vehicles (same team) show up and a weekday hook at that. There is the added expense of the extra transfer. Personally, I've not really heard of the track conditions being a specific reason and I could name some tracks who have crappy conditions and people still go there. The expense for some younger pullers is just higher than they want or can commit too. A mini isn't just throwing a small block on a homemade set of frame rails and going to have fun. It is expensive. A rear end now is more expensive than a complete turnkey when we started. Lastly, some of the competitors are getting old and have been in the game a long time and simply choose to pick and choose, not following a championship or Enderle spot. If it doesn't fit their schedule, they don't have pulling dictate. And understand, some of these OSTPA hooks are just NTPA R2 hooks changing sanctioning bodies. The set of competitors won't change much. So, add up the events and the "schedule" still is daunting. The question is, how many will buy dual licenses. Some will just follow the "new" sanctioning body for the thrill of it being new, but you atill have some of the same venues that have had the class in the past. |

Some of y'all's need to change your WPI branded underwear from time to time..
Just because someone mentions another organization, you get your cotton in a wad. What I see across the board with the Mini class is that guys are picking and choosing based on their geographical area. Sure you have the hot dogs that will only run GN events. But there has been a shift in how all pullers approach things. The payouts, pullers avg age, etc. Are all keeping more guys to thinking about staying closer to home. So do not shame a guy if he wants to run the "new" series. Just be glad he is gonna go pulling, even if he's a field filler. |

Maybe it’s time to think that pullers are getting fed up with Wpi and. Ntpa and are going to pull with the other organizations |

Re: NTPA RN2 Hooks down to 11

I think we all need to change our NTPA or PPL underwear and have both. Whether it be a state, region, or the big tours. Support both if possible before we don’t have any of the smaller pulls to hit. Ryan |

Just one thing to throw out there on the RN2 minis. That took a big hit when Mark sold his mini sled. Lost a few mini hooks in southern OH. Gordon Cox For The Love Of Pulling [www.facebook.com] [fortheloveofpulling.godaddysites.com] |
