4010 Puller Build May 12, 2025 01:32PM
Picked up a John Deere 4010 to build a puller. This tractor has a vertical mount stanadyne injection pump. I'd like to change the block to run a horizontal mount A pump. What information do y'all have on what engine that would be best for this setup I'm thinking a 359 from like a 2955 tractor The class is 7000# 360 cubic inch limit with a S300 turbo, 24.5-32 Thanks

Sounds very similar to the rules for our club, except we have a s200 turbo and a 3000 RPM limit.

What cube limit? A 2955 has a horizontal pump but it's not an A pump. A 404 or 466 would work unless cubes are too high.

jd43 the cube limit is 360, a 404 or 466 cubes are too high unless the 404 can be detuned with a smaller bore. 4 inch bore with a 4.75 stroke equals 358.14 cubes according to the cubic inch calculator. Can a 359 motor be adapted to run an A pump? RCP what is the name of the club you pull with? Currently there are no rules etched in stone yet there are three tractors in my area that pull together at local pulls when they are available. This tractor would make a fourth and the pulling group has said that if there were enough tractors that there would be a class established.

We pull with Northwest Pennsylvania Truck and Tractor Pullers, also Western Pennsylvania Truck and Tractor pullers, you can find both clubs on FB.

Rules summarized.

Safety equipment- roll bars, wheelie bars, clutch blanket, helmet, air guillotine (on diesels), steel flywheel, RPM sensor (3000 max) etc.

Turbo engines - Any normal tractor fuel (diesel P7100 pump max), gasoline (single updraft carb), propane (single carb) S200 turbo, 360 In3, no intercoolers, no water injection

Naturally aspirated engines - Any normal tractor fuel (see above), no displacement limit

Tires - 18.4 x 38 no cuts

Weight class - 7K, 7.5K and 8K pounds

Currently every tractor in the class is a turboed diesel (Cummins 5.9, IH 360, Duetz 5.9, Perkins 6.354), however there are some big Molines in our area that could definitely give the turbos a good run.

Decubing a 466 would be a much better choice than the 359.the head is far superior and parts are plentiful.shorten the stroke.

Check out ECIPA they have a similar class (360 Hot Stock) there is a 4010 called buzzard bait that has a 404 that has been decubed by Darrin Hynick out of eddyville IA runs really well. My opinion that’s a lot better route to go decubing versus the 359.

Where can I find or get made a set of coated pistons for a JD 466 to run 8000 lb Light Limited Pro Stock class. Class is 466 max with a P pump?

STC --- I would try Phil at Riverside Engines, he's the J D go to guy, if he doesn't have or can't get them I'd think he'd know where you could.
