It's a show, it's entertainment!

I think pulling has lost sight of what pulling is all about. It's mission to be to entertain the fans, first and foremost it's to entertain the people that are buying a ticket. I realize that without the pullers there is no show, however the sport get sponsors who are trying to sell their products to the buying public. Take the PS class, probably the most popular class at the national level. However the PS class is, without a doubt the most "cookie cutter" in the sport today. I'm not sure why but the new trend to to drive a stock looking tractor down the track. Sure big tires, chrome rims and smoke, however nothing else for the fans to see. If there is any hope to get the younger generation to become a fan they need to make it more of a show. I'm not suggesting a monster truck approach ( monster trucks were an addon at most indoor pulls and now monster trucks are a kids favorite) still pulling needs to look at why monster trucks grew so big and truthfully pulling has gone the other way. Pulling needs to completely change it's thinking, fan first, pullers second. I realize that this is not a very popular approach, however it needs to be done. Make the vehicles more exciting with graphics and make the show more entertaining. Dick Morgan www.PULLOFF.com Independent Pulling News |

Speaking of entertainment, when will they phase out the written commercials on the livestream? They are SO boring, doesn't matter who reads them! They have no appeal whatsoever. Are they what the crowd has to listen to at the pull too? Be better to just list the business card info on the big screen that they do now! |

I totally agree. And yet I have been very involved in and follow the circuits and the results in the pulling sport for 60+ years. And yet, when I'm at a pull, I see a stock looking high performance tractor, I rarely relate to whose tractor it is, simply because there is no identification. And if there is, the font size is so small, it is unrecognizable usually from spectator seating. This severely limits the appeal of pulling and relating the action to whomever the owner is. That is a (severe) limitation to growing theN4LDW sport's appeal to any given age of a spectator. Sharp appearing colorful graphics on the tractor's side shields, that are readable from the grandstand, adds to spectator appeal and support and building a fan base. Remember, pullers, you only have a few seconds on the pulling track to create and hopefully leave a favorable positive memory. Appealing tractor graphics, that relate back to you, are part of that equation. |
