Suggestion for Enderle

Moderator Registered: 07/06/2008 Posts: 1,887 |
I get there is a dual function for the event winner and points champions now.
However, having well over an hour of downtime for presentations/interviews in 13 Gn classes is a big ask of your crowd. My suggestion is to go immediately into the RN classes, since there are fewer overall entries, then do all presentations afterward. Edited 1 time(s). Charles and Alan Washburn were phenomenal along with Dan Schroer! That is the first pull I’ve been to where they made use of the downtime and you didn’t notice the time in between hooks or sled settings. People were more focused on the giveaways than the down time. Very well played!
The show ran efficiently as always. Sled settings minus the TWD truck class were pretty good. Now the ugly. If you want respect at the national level, if you want the sport to “grow” (whatever the heck that means anymore) you have to be detail oriented. To me there was a major detail missed. Case IH is the national sponsor. All the grooming equipment and test passes for the sled were with John Deere tractors. It’s a terrible look to be presented by Case IH and have nothing but John Deere equipment on the track. NTPA will penalize drivers if they don’t have all the proper sponsorship stickers on their tractor, then at their self promoted pull to do that! There are 3 Case IH dealers within an hour drive Urbana. One right there in Urbana. The Farm Science Review is in town next week where Case IH will have a display. You have a year to plan this event and I can’t believe Case IH as the presenting sponsor of the series wouldn’t want to partner up and have their equipment grooming the track. This event, WPI/NTPA is the promoter and this is a huge ball dropped by them. |

"The Ugly".........Of all the things that could be talked about, improved or changed, or, hear me out, left the hell alone, why do you care or think anyone else cares what brand the track prep tractors are? To say this is a non-issue is an understatement. |

A non issue? You clearly are a moron! You clearly weren’t around during the Wrangler days when Wrangler pulled their sponsorship because pullers refused to wear Wrangler hats. You clearly haven’t been in drivers meetings where pullers are told run the stickers or don’t run, lose your points and lose your year end points money. In a world where sponsorship dollars are tight the little details fu€£ing matter. The little details are what separate the best from the rest. The little details missed are why pulling will never be more than a bunch of rich farmers with money to blow having a proverbial circle jerk. |

Not that I don't agree at a level, and I get what you mean.....But there is two sides! The Promoter goes out raising His/Her own sponsorship all Year to pay for an expensive Event, and if the local JD Dealer steps up, should they not also have a say in the Track equipment at that Event? Now Case IH should get a spot to setup a display and could have some agreement in the Contract about the Equipment being used to an extent, and should supply some if the want it, but I don't see how they can be exclusive, the Promoter is the actual NTPA Customer.

NTPA, the crown ourselves King of Pulling just did more than fail sponsor it FAILED pullers by not practicing what they preach on sponsorship. To me whoever failed at that mission should be replaced. OH !!! maybe that would be a WPI board and an NTPA board. But continue your circle jerk and go blow smoke up some other sponsors back side. If I were Case would drop NTPA like a hot potato. |

NTPA totally screwed over the fans at the venue and on the live stream with having the break period.
A large portion of the crowd left after the GN classes, do to the downtime. Not because they didn't wanna watch the RN show, it was simply getting boring having to wait. I guess if NTPA got their ticket money, who gives a rip about the fans. If anything they could've double boxed the live stream to keep the show moving. Maybe CNH is ok with NTPA having green tractors doing prep, or maybe they weren't asked about it. However for your Super Bowl of pulling events, I would think that you would want to keep your title sponsor the happiest of all. It's pretty bad when the fans in the stands can see how bad these optics are too. Also the pill draw show on the live stream had zero drama. Moving the drivers around like musical chairs was dumb too. Do that on the horse track, just ahead of pull time, in front of the crowd. Give the fans more excitement instead of having it indoors at a private booze party... So many missed opportunities to engage with the fans, yet "we want more fan involvement" is all we keep hearing. One thing that we need to understand that tractor pulling has been this way for 50 years. And it will continue to be this way until the organizations invest in themselves and not lean on the pullers to do all of the heavy lifting. Fat chance we see any changes for the next 50 years. |

Plenty of us acknowledge the break didn't work. It was being discussed in real time, but not something that could be changed in the moment.
Your live draw in front of the crowd prior to the run is an awesome idea! I love that and will suggest it. CP |

Ok, then tell me this? How do we get spectators interested in all aspects of the pulling world? Ever thought maybe some drivers would like to speak about their runs to more than just their family and five people in the crowd? Look at NHRA. When they crown the event champions at the end of the weekend, there is a CROWD of people! We can't undercut everything some associations try to do just because it doesn't align with our agenda or is in our favor! |

While it's reasonable that a driver wants to share his or her joy during the interview, a bit of perspective is in order. Yes, there is a crowd at NHRA or NASCAR. Out of maybe 25,000 (an overestimate on average) at NHRA or 50-80000 NASCAR fans, any interviews after the race are in front of a fraction of the total crowd. Most people are heading to the car once the checkered flag waves or last win light comes on. After the last tractor pulls, especially if later than 10 at night, the vast, vast majority are not going to stick around for interviews. Exact same as other motorports. Even at Bowling Green with thousands of campers, why did the winners of the last classes Thursday and Friday night get interviewed during the next afternoon session? Those campers didn't have to drive anywhere, yet the stands emptied. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/15/2025 04:29PM by The Original Michael. |

I totally agree with Observer: how can you have a major sponsor [CaseIH] and use a different brand on the track. Sure it sounds like a small thing, however it should just be common sense to use the product that is paying you money. The sport replies on sponsors to help defray the bills, they give their money to have their products showcased. Do better! Dick Morgan www.PULLOFF.com Independent Pulling News |

I just turned on Full Pull Live of an Outlaws event today and the first thing I see is a John Deere piece of equipment grooming the track. The Case IH logo is on the top left corner of the stream screen. Marketing and sponsorships are in many forms. Companies may or may not want or even care about certain aspects of the operations of an event. If Case IH isn’t willing or doesn’t want to provide the necessary equipment to put their products on display at the events then the promoter/sanctioning body have to do with what’s available to make the event function. It’s very easy to say out loud or type on a computer that it should be done that way. The logistics of working with corporate/local dealers and the coordination amongst the parties involved is somewhat extensive and cost time, money and manpower on all sides of the equation. I feel like the event must’ve went pretty well (other than the downtime honoring champions and 2wd sled setting) if all you can come up with is the track grooming equipment wasn’t all Case IH. Thanks for everyone’s passion about the sport of truck and tractor pulling.

Jesse, thanks for your response. I do agree that it seems like we are making something more than it needs to be. However it's those small things that are important and they can so easily be corrected. Maybe CaseIH doesn't care about it at all but what if they do? Mr. Petro Sir
I find your reasoning to be really a lazy way out. Do not care what Outlaw did or did not do. If not mistaken this event happens ever year, so there is a whole year to get it together. As the promoter/sanctioning body for this pull it would make since in a number of ways to insure that I's are dotted and T 's crossed. So lack of is a poor excuse for not putting forth the effort, as details DO MATTER. |

Mr. President:
Thank you for proving my point as to why pulling remains stuck in the 80s. Excuses from leadership! Details matter, small details separate the best from the rest, you as a former national champion should be able to relate to that. You wouldn’t let just anybody adjust your valves, set your ignition timing, degree your cam, set your tire pressure, adjust the air gap on your clutch, etc. All those little things add up to big things and distance on the track. Pulling historically makes excuses as to why they can’t put their best foot forward for its sponsors and then out of the same mouths piss and moan that nobody wants to sponsor pulling. Gee, I wonder if the half hearted approach and excuses has anything to do with it? I didn’t see the Outlaw show but a Case IH logo in one corner with JD equipment on the track looks silly. NTPA is not Outlaws and I really don’t care what they do west of the Mississippi. NTPA “the world’s oldest and most respected”. If you’re going to constantly thump your chest in everything you post, act like it! You sir stop making excuses for them. I hope no one screen shots your response and sends it to Case IH, it can very easily be implied they don’t care if their equipment is front and center. Seems counter intuitive to the goal of sponsorship. I can see this airing on RFD-TV, The Enderle Pulloff, the All Star event of the NTPA Grand National pulling series presented by Case IH, look at all that green equipment getting this track ready. WPI has a year to promote this event, that’s a year to get ready. There is a Case IH dealer right there in Urbana, Farm Science next week. I’m sure communication with Case IH could make it happen. Better yet, a WPI shareholder was found to buy the new building from, a WPI shareholder was found to remodel the new building, a WPI shareholder was found to take the contract on exclusive media rights. You’re telling me we can’t find a WPI shareholder to help with hauling red equipment in? We care so little about appearance and details it couldn’t be accomplished? Weird! Good luck to you and the WPI board in figuring out the new clutch can mounting procedures. Best of luck in your future seasons to come. |

First off, pretty sure that’s Jim Miller’s blade tractor and wobble roller that’s been used for a quite a few years now across the entire circuit. I mean, I get it but that tractor combo can do what 2 does normally. Of course, you could get 2 out there - not disputing that and that’s what I would’ve done.
Nevertheless, the pause between GN and RN was a disaster. So many fans left and those that didn’t weren’t happy. BG finds a way to do winners circle interviews during a 2 track pull- find a way to coordinate with the track and get a break now and again (between classes) and knock out a couple! What a mess! |

Leadership has become a title only. The ones that actually lead are far and few between anymore. Apparently it's too stressful to have division meetings at Enderle anymore. Pullers have less of a voice as we move forward. The majority will just be told that's how it will be and take it or leave it. |

ACTUALLY, the ball is Case/IH court! There several GN pulls I know of that the local Case/IH dealer refuses to support with any equipment. One in particular is still family owned by a former GN champion puller. This is NOT on WPI/NTPA. Case/IH needs to do better. |

The Case IH deal may be great for both sides. Fendt sponsors NHRA. If the deal doesn't work long term with Case IH, there are options out there.

As a puller it was annoying waiting around an extra 2 hours after we were done pulling to take a picture, yes we want to support and congratulate our fellow competitors for the win and points championship which is why we stayed but we wanted to get on the road for a long drive home. And you could tell that the crowd didn't appreciate it either. Do it after each class is complete while changing sleds or in-between hooks to keep the show moving. |

Someone made this decision to halt the action for interviews. Who was it? How could they not foresee that moving that many tractors in and out for so many interviews was going to kill the momentum of the show?
Sometimes bright people become so fixated on an idea they miss the forest (overall show) for the trees (we must talk to all Enderle winners/points champs in all 13 GN classes). I think the person who planned this had his heart in the right place but did not pause to think how long will this take. |

It's unfortunate that one glitch over shadowed a great event. I'm sure in hindsight the NTPA would have done it completely different, and I'm sure that next year this will not be the format. Still you have to give credit to the NTPA for this one of a kind event. Dick Morgan www.PULLOFF.com Independent Pulling News |

Lets continue beating a dead horse. A NTPA employee already came on here and said that they know it was an issue. They are discussing changes for next year already while it was already playing out. You can't change it when its already in play/too late.... Be grateful they already acknowledged the issue and are talking about fixing it. Be grateful they are trying different things to improve the show, sometimes they don't work but they are trying???
Has anyone asked about the contract for Enderle? Considering you heard interviews in the past that the NTPA GN contract requires all Case IH equipment on the track and in the pits was there a clause in the contract for Enderle for what ever reason that they can use John Deere instead? Was the local IH dealer not able to supply enough equipment and they had to make it work? But lets instantly bash the organization that is trying to make a show like this happen that no one else has.... Must have been a great show if all you guys have to complain about is John Deere tractors working the track... Hopefully some year I will be able to go. |

Re: Suggestion for Enderle

My history with the Enderle goes back to 1989, when I was hired for the Enderle ESPN TV programs in 1989 and ended at last years Enderle.
Many changes during that time have made this event extremely important as a must win a true All Star Event. I wasnt at this years event but the age old track equipment and tow tractor struggle continues. In a perfect world brand spanking new red tractors would bee used. The reality is with over 86 national events it's tough to find enough tow vehicles period. Add to that each dealers inventory and staff to equipement every event is not feasible. Case IH would probably place more value on the number of people signing up for the tractor and CASH give away. I think Jessie Petro did a good job or laying out some key points. My educated guess is that only GSR knows the DELIVERABLES in thee current contact. the Green tractors at the event were donated by what farmer or dealership. What PA announcements of banners were there for green machines? Farmers Equipment has been a sponsor for the last several years. How long was the break? What occured during that break? I would think Enderle Winner Check presentation, GNPC Champion interviews wouuld be what should be done. It's the WINNER'S CIRCLE so it seems that interview and pictures of 13 divisions wouldn't take 2 hours. Were pullers their all lined up and ready to go? Was there a wait for ALL five with crew/family/friends per each division? What do fans think about awards for classes done right after their event? NHRA and NASCAR etc have media AVAILABILITIES after the event. Some fans might stick around for the 2+ hours post race. Should pullers be more RESPONSIBLE for showing up right after the class is done. Winner only. Some promoters have the awards, trophies and sponsors gifts at a tent so competitors are not bogged down CARRYING their gifts from the winners circle. Pictures are taken at the tent. Every event is DIFFERENT every sponsorship requirement is DIFFERENT as well. Maybe its time for a revamp of winner's presentations or maybe a production director is in charge of the total event. That just takes more time and people. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/15/2025 08:17AM by Dick Morgan. |

This thread just goes to show how the ignorant are the most confident in their “opinions” without knowing any details or doing any sort of homework on the subject matter. Also shows that they will literally find absolutely anything to complain about just to be a mouthpiece.
Whoever said it was 2 hours between sessions is absolutely full of it. It was an honest 45 mins to an hour, tops. Could that be worked in a little, possibly. It’s hard to do some of that with two tracks and loud vehicles constantly moving while trying to get the pullers the recognition they should have. Their own sponsors do deserve some attention too. Though I’m sure that was zero thought behind most people’s opinion. A couple things worth explaining to maybe help somebody understand logistics. The pill draw the night before, needs to and should happen well in advance. Line up sheets need to be made and paperwork finalized well before start time. Scales opened at 230 Saturday. Line up sheets need to be in hand by then to allow the scale guy to check them off as they go across. Regional competitors don’t show up until Saturday morning. So, Saturday morning until noon-1 tech, sign in etc for them needs to be taken care of. Early Saturday afternoon group pictures are done, gates are open and people start funneling in, wandering the grounds etc. |

Any keyboard warrior can look up on Full Pull the amount of time of “the break” - which was a little over an hour, especially if you include the RN driver intros.
This has been acknowledged, obviously, moving on. The grandstand track sure had a huge number of vehicles playing with the left side boundary line, and the pit side seemed to gravitate to the center , especially the big tire classes. Grandstand track had a rough starting line as well with a pretty deep hole to boot. Can’t do the interviews, presentations with 2 tracks? Have you been to Pulltown? GN pullers were on the grounds at 6pm on Friday. They could’ve been tech’d and scales way in advance. I love the show and what it brings. Premiere events need to be PREMIERE especially at $30/ticket for fans day of show. Full Pull did a great job, watched the replay today. |

Not sure where you think GN couldn’t be tech’d way in advance? Tech was open Friday from 1-6PM most GN competitors cleared tech before 6PM. As for scaled, how early are you thinking? Once we scale your equipment stays in the hot pits. So how long would you like to be away from your competition vehicle? Or how long would you like to sit in the infield with your vehicle? |

For the record I did say after we were done pulling not after the session and that time started after our vehicle was strapped down and ready to go. And I should say overall the event is great and we enjoyed our time, just a little constructive criticism. |

Overall I thought it was a Great show that was very well done. I would probably keep the pull rolling and do the awards in between runs to keep the crowd there....or afterwards.
My only complaint on the Live Streams is at some events the sound quality is very poor. The Enderle sound and video quality was excellent! |

So to keep give the fans and the GN pullers a chance to actually be seen, they did well to run them first. However, the RN guys ran in front of empty bleachers... |
