Rising fuel costs and pulling. March 12, 2026 11:17AM
Will the cost of fuel keep fans away, will pullers pick and choose the events that the will attend? This post is not going to play the blame game. How does this impact farming, trucking, small businesses? My experience is the oil companies will raise prices in one day and take one month to lower them.

I took my 5 furthest pulls Seymour,Tomah,Buck,Macon and Chapel Hill. the average miles per round trip is 1225 miles. Lets use 7 miles per gallon for mileage. 1225 divided by 7 = 175 gallons per round trip.Diesel Fuel here in Mid Michigan the week of February 21 was $3.79 per gallon.Today its $4.69.A increase of .90 cents per gallon..90 cents x 175= $157.50 per round trip . IF your pulling Operation is based on less than $200.00 per event. You should probably Rethink your Hobby. I remember the 2008 season when fuel prices went high, seeing pullers at events with out there pulling vehicles because fuel prices were to high. But they drove there pickup there to watch . Don't lose your focus on what we do for our Hobby. Personally I'm not going to drive my hauler back from every event.I'm going to be smart about it and leave it with some fellow pullers and drive a personal vehicle home. Scott Phillips Yankee Blue

I've had that same experience also. And the same thing with grain prices in the opposite direction. Takes a day to lower them and a month to bring them back up if not more! This is why I'm glad I'm a state puller.

I heard a fellow farmer call it "escalator up, elevator down" when referring to grain prices. Same concept only in reverse for fuel prices!

In 2008 and again in 2022 I paid $4 a gallon or more for fuel...It didnt slow me down any as both a puller and a spectator..I'm fortunate to have a real good income and dont live close to the edge.
