Cheap Horsepower........... March 22, 2026 02:06AM
...........there is no such thing. No such thing as a cheaper class; they all cost money.

The quickest way to make something more expensive is to add more rules that limit it.

Like cubic limits and box chargers...........................that means you have to spend a bunch of money somewhere else to get horsepower.

The only thing that will keep costs down is speed limits, and I don't mean the 10-12 mph or whatever some classes run now.

You take a stock tractor at its farming weight, and stock horsepower can only pull a sled at 5 mph, so you have to spend money to go 10 mph.

The problem is, fans will not pay to watch tractors pull at 5 mph.

Horsepower costs money; there is no way around it. Pulling costs money.

I like the idea of air restrictors. Works fine for many hooded classes with additional other limitations, as well as for modified with allmost no additional other limitations.

Mark, I believe that you have a flawed concept that limits drive up the cost. To follow your logic a 680 PS should cost less than a SF. The PS class has more "wide open rules" hence cheaper to build and operate. And a LLSS should be more expensive that a OSS. The fact is every class in pulling has limits, even the Unlimited Mods, limits in lower HP classes makes them affordable, less breakage, a vast supply of parts and better reliability. And you are certainly right every class is expensive to run, some just more than others.

Do you have your 680 PS ready to go?

Air restrictors, rpm limits PLUS limiting the "level" of events you can drive at, helps.
Those who want to spend a lot of money to win, don't want to do it at small events.

I'm not sure what the point of the post is but classes are only affordable to those that can afford them.

In drag racing they say you can have 2 of the 3 of cheap, fast, and safe, but not all 3.
