The people that had a big impact on pulling! April 07, 2026 07:36AM
After reading The Original Michael's post I started to think about the people that had a huge impact on the sport of truck and tractor pulling. In no particular order these of some of the people that come to mind.. Dave Schreier, Tom McConnell, Doug Roberts, Forest Lucas, Vaughn Bauer. Steve Boyd, Banter Brother, Tim Engler, The Quad, the Simon's family, Larry Richwine, Esdon Lehn, Ed Hart, Bosse Brothers, Van Haisley, Larry Koester, Jerry Lagod, Terry Blackbourn, Brent Long, Photo Joe, Max Simpson, Butch Krieger, Conner Brothers, Dave Grimm. On my list there a mix of people that played a in every aspect of pulling. I know that I have missed so many that had a huge part of making the sport what it is today. Please add to the list of the names I have missed, I'm sure that there are many more.

If we look at pulling tires, Bob Parkes comes to mind. What other names have made contributions in the area of pulling tires?

What pullers never or rarely ran national pulls, but won lots of pulls or championships at a state or regional level?

Id add the people that bailed out ntpa, along with Dave haley.for general pulling I'd say chuck vogel and Julian stahl have sold more parts than anyone.dick cepek in the tire dept, his tires dominated 3 classes for decades.

I would add Dale and Gary Kohl. They were strong supporters of NTPA back in the day when it was somewhat touch and go for the organization. Dale had much input in SS rules formation and was one of the primary voices in the start of the prostock class.

Breaking Barriers Pod Cast has some great interviews on You Tube of some of those people mentioned and more. Gary does a great job with his interviews. I'll add Sidenstricker to the class. His powering up the JD 404 to pull with led to the JD 466.

Bill Lineberger and Victory FILMS Mint Hill, NC ESPN and National Syndication of Power Tracs, Challenge of Power and Wheel Power TV programs.

Kent and Joan Enderle for establishing NTPA All Star event. Thanks to NHRA marketing at the time for turning down this bonus program. And the contingency program and Crower Classic bonus Programs Kent helped usher into the pulling world.

Arnie Kuhns, SFI Program, he opened many doors for NTPA and established more industry and other sanctioning body contacts.

NTPA leadership had a big impact on pulling ( and not in a positive way either ) hence when they lost Larry Roberts and R&L Carriers as a competitor and moreover as a sponsor !!! Yeah way to go !!!

Re: The people that had a big impact on pulling! April 20, 2026 03:24AM
What do R & L Carriers do after leaving NTPA?

Re: The people that had a big impact on pulling! April 20, 2026 04:46AM
R&L didn't come back to pulling is the point.

Who cares if they sponsor college football, a drag car team, or a row boat. They aren't in tractor pulling and that is a major loss.

R&L Carriers? April 20, 2026 04:52AM
I heard Larry Roberts wanted to sponsor the SSO class either at Bowling Green specifically or on the GN circuit more generally, but either Dave S. or NWOTPA President at that time said no. R&L was gone not too long afterward.

What's the real story?

Lewis and Bryan Conner Bad Medicine April 30, 2026 06:15AM
Conner Bro's are true legends. Lewis and Bryan's fuel system is legendary

Re: It is Ernie and Bryan Conner "Bad Medicine" April 30, 2026 12:43PM
As I recall, there is no genealogical relationship between "Lewis" in KY and "Bryan" in MO. Bryan and his brother Ernie, in their 'young' days, developed the pulling alcohol
fuel system, that revolutionized utilizing alcohol in Super Stock pulling tractors. Today (and the past quarter of a century), that is Bryan's business.
Listen to Bryan's interview on Breaking Barriers U-tube.

It's really a tragedy that Lewis doesn't get his credit due for what these 2 have accomplished.

Let's not forget Charles Poosch, Alan Washburn, Butch, Miles, and Jeremy Krieger, and other pulling announcers who really paid attention to the sport and its surroundings and gave some amazing interviews, understandings of what was happening on and off the track, as well as not having dead airtime in between competition runs.

Also engine builders like Sassy, Sonny's, Brad Anderson, Keith Black, Koester's, Veney, Salenbein Performance, Engelking, Lemke, Ament, Joe Busch, Pat Genuine, etc.

Can't forget major sponsors from back in the day like Redman (now America's Best), Chevrolet, Wrangler, Lucas Oil, Copenhagen, Jasper Engine and Transmission, General Tire, Cenpeco, Case IH,

Broadcasting and Syndication Programs and Companies like Diamond P Sports, ESPN, TNN Motor Madness, NBC, Full Pull, etc.

I thank you, but I have no place in this conversation. I haven't earned it. I may never.
