This is a MAYBE 150 HP tractor. Still has a roosa pump stock lines and larger injectors. It is a M&W charger might run 20psi.

First off check the surface of the head and get rid of those head bolts and use studs. Use a good quality head gasket spray it with that copper tack stuff and it will hold. Done this on mine and we farm with it a good bit and have had no trouble.

stock gasket will work fine for this.if you are having trouble,do like binderboy said, check for flatness.couldnt keet gaskets in my dads 560 gas that he farms with till i checked the head and it had kind of a twist to it.milled it flat, been running for about 10 years now with no problems

remember - no matter what a 282 motor is a gas conversion - 14 head bolts aint enough ! You need to have head AND block flattened and use studs ! I work on IH engines all the time & some of these crappy engines wont hold a gasket for a year unless this is done !!!

We did deck the block and resurface the head. Have about .006 sleeve protrusion. And am using ARP head studs.

I am looking into groving and wireing the sleeves. Thinking of about .004 protrusion on a wire. Should help quite a bit

What timing are you running ? This can also cause problems on these motors as well

This is a customer tractor I will have to check timeing to make sure. Where should the timeing be o n it??

You have to run the serial number off the block and look it up.I belive for the most part the 560 ran on tdc. And the 656/706 Ran on 3 degrees. The 656 is a better head and block you dont have to use the shims and all that to get the correct liner heigth.

Its interesting that this came up again. Since my original posts I repaired two 301 turbo diesel pullers gasket issues. I got a Iskenderian block groove tool. In the tractor I grooved the blocks, Installed wire and used a Clark copper head gasket. Along with ARP studs. Years later both tractors have not had a single issue with head gasket failure.

What size wire did you use Gonzo?

Re: IH 560 Diesel headgasket advise April 18, 2019 01:18PM
It has been a long time ago. I think it was .041 wire. The head gaskets were thicker but I would have to search my records to be exact

Re: IH 560 Diesel headgasket advise April 17, 2019 06:29AM
.041" wire?

Re: IH 560 Diesel headgasket advise April 19, 2019 12:45PM
size wire depends totally on the groove size you cut
