What makes a Columbus HX60 so great? March 09, 2010 09:41AM
Besides there billet wheel why are these so expensive? I found a stock new one for $400. They put $3000 worth of magic in them?

Re: What makes a Columbus HX60 so great? March 09, 2010 10:05AM
A new one for $400?? They cost a lot more than that new! Then add the stuff they do to make it live when used for tractor pulling (running double the exhaust pressure its designed for) add a Columbus exhaust housing so we can overspeed it, then add a redesigned billit wheel and yes--it costs a lot more, but you wouldn't be happy with the performance of a stock one. All your competitors will be happy if you run a stock one---cause you will be in last place.

Re: What makes a Columbus HX60 so great? March 09, 2010 11:54AM
I found a new one on a car forum. The guy wanted $400obo. Seems cheap enough? What kind of special exhaust housing does columbus use on there 3x3.6 hx60? And you know someones gotta fininsh last!

Re: What makes a Columbus HX60 so great? October 14, 2021 12:35PM
There far from stock with alot of dyno testing to prove what works best I don't really want to go into everything about the hx 60 but there are things done to it it to. Make it drive the compressor wheel as hard as it does very reliable

Re: What makes a Columbus HX60 so great? October 14, 2021 01:37PM
Oh please elaborate for us

Re: What makes a Columbus HX60 so great? October 14, 2021 02:37PM
So,,,,,,, you DO realize this post is 12 YEARS old right?

Re: What makes a Columbus HX60 so great? March 09, 2010 01:46PM
Would think it depends on the class you're running. Better bearing and machining oil passages for more oil flow would be almost a must on a stock charger no matter what the class you're runinng, i would think.

Re: What makes a Columbus HX60 so great? March 09, 2010 02:36PM
I know they do that and balance it too! I think you can send a stock out of the box HX 60 with billet wheel and get the work done to it for around 2 grand.

Re: What makes a Columbus HX60 so great? March 09, 2010 03:04PM
Do you need to get there compressor cover to match the billet wheel or does the stock one work? Anyone know what they charge for the latest wheel and cover?

Re: What makes a Columbus HX60 so great? March 09, 2010 11:58PM
Keep drinking the kool aid, they must be real awesome, that's why they are always for sale. They don't do near as much as you think to the hx60.

Re: What makes a Columbus HX60 so great? March 10, 2010 07:04AM
The 3.6 chargers are usually for sale because people find out they can't turn them very easy without the right goodies in the motor.

Re: What makes a Columbus HX60 so great? March 10, 2010 10:10AM
500-700 for the holset billet wheel 1000 for the columbus billet wheel pick the one you want then send it to denny frey think he does better work for a better price

Re: What makes a Columbus HX60 so great? March 10, 2010 11:49AM
Holset makes its own billet wheel? Do you have denny frey's phone number?

Re: What makes a Columbus HX60 so great? March 10, 2010 12:55PM
Dennis Frey's number at Fair Valley Performance I believe is 608 643 0200 Yes Columbus is making their own wheels after several years of passing off the Holset 8 Blade billet to customer's at a 300 to 400 dollar price increase over what you can get them from Holset for. You couldn't tell a difference with them laying side by side or on the dyno so we would just have the holset wheel's balenced although with the billet wheels they weren't out of balance much at all!!

Re: What makes a Columbus HX60 so great? March 10, 2010 01:28PM
That's some handy info about the wheels! Why does Holset make a billet wheel? Is it just for a people using hx60's in performance applications?

Re: What makes a Columbus HX60 so great? March 10, 2010 02:23PM
Personally I don't think Holset gives a rip about performance applications they don't make any effort to release the compressor MAPS to the public that I have ever seen, and the performance industry is peanuts compared to the rest of the applications they serve. Other than that I just know they were built and put on stock engines from the factory and the billet's were used in high pressure ratio situations.

Re: What makes a Columbus HX60 so great? March 10, 2010 02:44PM
Any idea on the part # for the billet wheel?

Re: What makes a Columbus HX60 so great? March 10, 2010 02:57PM
Call Castners, 315-730-4469 think they have something that may work for you.

Re: What makes a Columbus HX60 so great? March 10, 2010 03:04PM
I want to say the Billet wheel is 4040285 that is the 3.150 wheel so it either has to be cut down to fit in a 3 in comp cover or you have to buy the comp cover that fit's it and that number escape's me at the moment

Check [www.caboturbo.com] there is some helpful info about Holset performance turbos on there.

the billet wheel parts number is 404c285 from Holset. after you get it i would send it to Fair Valley Performance. he will machine the wheel and the housing if you have to have it done. last i talked to Dennis he had wheels in stock. great guy to work with as well. His Number is (608) 643-0200.

Re: What makes a Columbus HX60 so great? March 12, 2010 02:49AM
Almost but not quite as I stated earlier the part number is 4040285 there are not letter's from the alphabet in any holset part number's that I am aware of..... Last time I chekced you could buy the 8 blade billet still for under 500 bones.

Re: What makes a Columbus HX60 so great? March 12, 2010 10:51AM
I took the part number from the box that the wheel was shipped in from the factory and there is a c in the number sorry puller12

Re: What makes a Columbus HX60 so great? March 12, 2010 12:01PM
Thanks for the input on this topic. Sounds like Fair Valley is the place to go. What size outlet would you recommend on a 640 bb deere, the 3.4 or the 3.6?

Re: What makes a Columbus HX60 so great? March 12, 2010 12:47PM
we can spin the 3.6 exhuast with the 466 intercooler and single water. Fair valley will point you in the right direction if you ask.

Re: What makes a Columbus HX60 so great? March 12, 2010 01:53PM
Hey 466 Pro Farm What size ex housing are you running on that a 32 or a 27? and is your turbo a big foot???

Re: What makes a Columbus HX60 so great? March 12, 2010 05:08PM
Yay Jake you guys spin the hell out of it!!!!

Re: What makes a Columbus HX60 so great? March 13, 2010 10:27AM
it is a custom built exhaust from Fair Valley. it is supposed to be right around a 21 or 22. and it does spin the hell out of it.
