Biggest thing is later 40 series had crank driven oil pump, 30 and early 40 series were cam driven oil pump.I believe the head bolt depth was deeper in the newer engines also compared to the 30 series.

Crank gear should be tig welded on also. Is it crank or cam driven oil pump? If Phil has the head it will probably come back with heavier valve springs. Steel nose cam and straight cut timing gears would not hurt anything.

They make one with a bigger inlet than that. If you want bigger you could always go gt42 or s400

Some guys used to use the 3306 cat pistons ( 4.75” bore) with stock stroke on a 466 to make a 505; or with a Stroker crank and ih rods to go 585, but the pistons require machining still and wrist pin to rod fitment needed work as well. By the time you bought new pistons and had machining done you could probably have a new set made . All engine builders usually sell piston/sleeve kits

Yes, or you could bore the 404 to take 4 7/8” pistons and sleeves; the 466 block has to be bored to go to that size as well. Then you’re at 531 ci with stock stroke

I believe the only 30 series dry clutches were in the power shift and they were more of a torsional dampener ; the 30 series synchro and quads were the perma clutch (wet).

So you’re going to use a 4030 then and a 359 engine? Is tractor synchro or quad range transmission? Any idea of turbo size limits or what kind of power anyone else in the class is making ?

Sounds like you are going to
Need a good 10 mm A pump, bigger injectors like 4x22’s and a s300 turbo. You can get a turbo off of a jd 8.1 engine which is a s300 or can buy other ones, they make several different sized ones and styles. Then the head gasket will probably become an issue ……

I had a 3lm 33 on a 4430 it ran ok in farmstock with 300 cc of fuel . How is availability on them? I saw where fair valley had offered them on their website with cast or billet compressor wheel. I was thinking the inlet was more around 2 1/4”….
