I never said to go back in time. I will say it slower this time. When HP goes up in the Unlimited class they just add more weight to the sled. Same show.
Can't argue with that.
In the past , when HP increased, the tractor weight had to be "decreased", so....
If todays crowd wants to see the "drag race" at current speeds as it is today, then I see tractor weights being re

My opinion was, and still is, the heavier the class the better.......back then, that is.
I liked to see them strain going down the track, as far as "straining" goes , of course.
Now a days, it's not so much about pulling, but I liked the heaviest classes back in the 80's, but that's just me.

If you think they don't know what is going on with the track next to them, you are very wrong!
They are the best in the business, bar none.
Yes, but just how many Menn's and Doty's does the sport have , or how many are as good as they are, especially when it's a volunteer situation at

Tractors from the 70's and 80's bring a mint now a days, if their in any kind of decent shape at all because the new stuff is priced out of reach for the average farm now.

I am not big fan of antique. Rather stay with stock farm tractor class. I was thinking that be the cheapest. Prefer a John Deere. Not really sure what size need to be looking for
Farm stock has been pretty active in Middle Tennessee, the Tennessee Pullers Association has a 12500 Farm Stock class paced at 6mph...several hook opportunities. They have a group page on FB.

I agree with Lewis that "." or as he calls himself, "the point" is smart. And obviously, has been around a long time, too. Knows, his history.
Personally, I think that the best thing that can be done for tractor pulling is to make super high horsepower less important for getting down the track.
I agree with that sentence, but not your proposal. As is typical for you IH g

It would be pretty tough to sue the sled owner, event promoter, or the owner of the building being how you must sign a liability waiver prior to entering the event that clearly states you understand the risk and agree to hold nobody responsible for accidents outside of yourself. Most don’t even read it they just sign. It was unfortunate but the cable did it’s job, as did the staff

I get so tired of reading negative posts about tractor pulling from one of this websites owners. HP is tractor pulling and always has been. Let the ingenuity and engineering push the sport because that is what makes it interesting. If you limit everything there are other motorsports that will be much more interesting to go watch. Patches, they actually had drag races one year. Whoever pulled a loaded sled pan 300 the fastest. Ran elimination style rounds. And I believe they ran a couple different weight classes.
Would be interesting if there were any video's of those out there !

This is what i have in mind, using a deadweight type sled instead, (stock tractors of course, running at stock HP ratings or a limited % over).
Racing tractors down a track with no weight is just racing, not pulling.
I want to see them WORK to get down the track.
The track doesn't need to be 300', preferably 100 to 150' at the most.

SE Ohio has several "Dead Weight" pulls at their county fairs. Usually the full pull is between 10 to 20 feet, no time limit. 2 attempts typically and keep adding more weight at end of each round until nobody can make a full pull, then the best distance is the winner. You must get a full pull to advance to the next round. No time limit because some of the old putt putts have a slow
