The crankcase on any engine is vented to the outside.Even though you shut off the air coming into an engine you can pull enough air through crankcase vents,holes in pistons and blown turbo seals along with engine oil to keep an engine running.I hope this clears up some of the confusion as to why these diesels can still run with the air shut off pulled.As to any question as to checking the air shu
