Re: ntpa getting old and lazy - 14 years ago
I think it’s great to keep the hemi and wedge motors competitive, but my complaint is that each region and each state has its own set of rules. They ALL need to have the same rules from region to region. If changes are made they should be made at the regional and state level in ALL associations, not from one association, state, or region to the next.by Jake Morgan - Forum
One more reason for unified rules - 14 years ago
Personally I think ALL states and regional clubs should come up with a unified set of mod rules, so any one can go anywhere at any time and be legal and know what to expect.by Jake Morgan - Forum

Re: Component Tractors - 14 years ago
I copied the PPL rules directly from their website. I believe they measure the height of the nose of the crank from a flat horizontal ground surface below the tractor, and that's what my previous comments related to. I believe the NTPA measured this when I was at Tomah about 4 or 5 years ago, and I can’t remember for sure, but I believe they measured from the ground surface to the nose oby Jake Morgan - Forum
Re: * Best Place to Find Tractor Pulling Rules? * - 14 years ago
There are places that within a 100 mile radius they have 3 clubs, all with different rules. It’s one of the biggest problems with this motorsport. I wish you luck… my best advice is pick the club that suits you and look at their rules, and then look at the rules of a club or two close by and see what you can build that fit’s all, or most of the clubs. Re: Component Tractors - 14 years ago
Don't have the book in front of me, but NTPA and PPL both say: - From back of motor to centerline of rearend to be no further than 60" If my memory is correct, the NTPA crank height wording is a little confusing. PPL's wording is clear: Front nose of the crankshaft can be no lower than 4” of the center of the rear axle. If my memory is correct the NTPA has some fractional drop allby Jake Morgan - Forum
Re: NFMS Who's new--Who's out - 14 years ago
The post says who’s new for 2010, and who’s out from 2009. I’m not going to spend much time arguing about interpretations of the word “new”… you can interpret it to be “new” this year compared to last year, or you can interpret it to mean “new” to Louisville since the dawn of time… but anyone who took the time to put that list together probably knows that the Blagrave’s (amongst others) have beeby Jake Morgan - Forum

Re: Pull in Duqouin Il - 14 years ago
I have no idea what my winter pulling schedule is going to be. I will depend on my class schedule, as well as the state of my house remodeling project (I bought a foreclosed wreck that my wife and I are hoping to move into as soon as it’s habitable…), and most importantly my budget (foreclosed wreck has eaten up my funds rather quickly!) Thanks for the videos. Looks very strong to say the least. If you look closely at the video there’s a .01 mm scratch on the front weight bracket of the Superhick. The Batliners have really let the appearance slip on that Massey! If only it had Valtra sheetmetal, then they’d really have something. In all seriousness… it’s great to see the Massey back out and stronger than ever, congratsby Jake Morgan - Forum

Rod Doctor, I rarely disagree with your posts, but I think it would be the perfect time to switch to Light Pro, (but I can understand a pullers apprehension for switching now). Cons: The current downside is the amount of Light Pro hooks for 2010 is unknown. Not only is the number of hooks unknown, but the locations and regions that will run this class in 2010 is also still a question marby Jake Morgan - Forum

I think everyone who’s read this page knows my opinion, and I still think a Deere should be a Deere. I honestly don’t think they will overturn the new rule. Unfortunately the NTPA can’t seem to recognize that brand loyalty is (was) their biggest strength. I’ll probably be in the minority, but I’ll be voting with my feet and looking for other options. Prior to the new rule it would have been legal in anything newer than a 9240 (or the first Massey that offered the 8.3) since the old rule allowed for updating sheetmetal.by Jake Morgan - Forum
Re: Over head 4 valve heads - 14 years ago
Four valve heads should be allowed when they are OEM for tractors. Tractor pulling rules need to keep up with current tractor technology. The rules should not disallow something that is pulling a plow in the fields. Tractor's with 3 and 4 valve heads will most likely be commonplace on farms across this country pulling plows, manure spreaders, and everything else under the sun. Pulling ruby Jake Morgan - Forum
Re: PPL SHEET METAL - 14 years ago
Agreed, I really wish PPL would add a Light Super Stock class to their lineup. Adopt the same rules as the NTPA (minus this new bogus sheetmetal rule) and they would be all set. PPL already has the LSS running in ESP (Empire State Pullers, here in NY) with very, very similar rules to NTPA, just a few minor tweaks and PPL would have a great class (ESP has no limit on cubic inches for Diesels inby Jake Morgan - Forum

Re: Updated engine block and hood list - 14 years ago
Do you really think a 500 cubic inch class with an OEM block and an OEM 4-valve Overhead Cam head would be “nutless”? Are you serious? I’m guessing your not… your just looking to argue, bash, and cause trouble. Sorry, but the times are indeed changing, and pulling isn’t changing with those times, and the changes the NTPA is making aren't helping.by Jake Morgan - Forum
Re: Updated engine block and hood list - 14 years ago
Sascha, I agree with you completely on that, NTPA's outlook definatley needs updating. Personally, I’d really like to see the rules in some classes (Super Stock - all versions and Pro Stock in particular) allow 4-valve heads and Overhead Cam heads if the stock factory head for that make and model is used. Leave the billet heads at 2 valves, but allow the current OEM OHC 4-valve heads toby Jake Morgan - Forum
Re: N/A TRACTORS IN NTPA OR PPL???? - 14 years ago
From an appearance and performance standpoint… I’m not a fan of huge airplane carbs sticking off the side of tractors. I think the rules should to allow fuel injection, and if somebody wants to put on a Stromberg carb the size of my house let them, but let in injection as well. As always, I favor small cubes and light weight! Make the class a high performance natural SS class… not an antique cby Jake Morgan - Forum

I agree, it’s all tied together in some classes, but this new rule also applies to the LSS class where cubes are not a concern. That’s what makes this new rule a separate debate. Re: Reo you think the Americain Farmers who are fans Supports This? - 14 years ago
That’s exactly my point… The NTPA has not clearly defined a vision (and if they have they have yet to share it with the general public). That is their biggest problem: either they have no clear vision of the future they’d like for the sport, or they are unwilling to share their vision with the general public. Fortunately, the 1001 opinions can still be looked at with simple mathematics. Simple math can help guide even the most aimless of organizations. If they do indeed have a vision why is it being implemented so poorly and without clear mission statements regarding those goals? Does the NTPA’s vision ofby Jake Morgan - Forum

Sorry if I wasn’t clear on a few points: “No comments were made that message boards have harmed anything or anyone.” The point I was trying to make regarding message boards was before the NTPA brings up a rule at a meeting they should have a grace period to discuss the ramifications of the rule. When “the edge is reached” in ALL other motorsports they either lower the cubic inches, take away air, or dilute their fuel a little more. They ALWAYS take their power away. They do this knowing full well that it will actually increase the technology in their respective motorsport. In time… as the technology develops they are back to the exact same HP levels.
