Whats The Serial Number June 26, 2010 02:42PM
A man in NE Missouri is keeping track of all known 1206 serial numbers. He goes by Red Reaper on the Redpower forum. You might let him and the forum members know in case it turns up somewhere.Good Luck.

Re: Whats The Serial Number June 27, 2010 07:15AM
14067

Re: stolen 1206 June 26, 2010 02:46PM
I would think that one would be easy to find with black paint!!! But more likely it will show up wearing brand new paint, so I hope you have the SN or other definitive markings on it. Good luck to you finding it. Smiling

Re: stolen 1206 June 26, 2010 03:18PM
If the serial number is plastered all over the internet their only choice will be to try and part it out.Even painting it wont work.Put it on Redpower, ytmag, and all the farming forums. The internet is a powerful tool.

Re: stolen 1206 June 27, 2010 02:21AM
yes serial number is the way to find it sense a 12 year old kid with a dull chisel can knock the rivits off that hold the tag on the bell housing

Re: stolen 1206 June 27, 2010 02:50AM
Only a fool would buy a 1206 or any other tractor with no serial # tag or a ground off serial # .Thats a dead give away that its stolen and it makes it pretty worthless.

Re: stolen 1206 June 28, 2010 11:21AM
Unfortunately, you can buy reproduction serial number tags, and have whatever serial number you want put on........good luck, but unless the guy's a complete moron, you'll probably never see the tractor again, unless he's got a friend with a concience that rats him out......

Re: stolen 1206 June 28, 2010 12:16PM
Yes,you can buy reproduction serial # plates but the people that do this are pretty careful whom they do business with. How would you go about picking out another serial number? You might just pick one for a 1206 thats still in existence. These days owners lists are being kept for tractors of the 1960's and older. There is a rather extensive 1206 owners list being kept.

There is absolutely no reason to ever need a new 1206 serial # plate. All the serial # plates on the 06 and 56 series IH tractors that I own are in perfect condition and will never need replacing. You are probably correct that hitchpin will never see his 1206 again. It will be parted out and one of these days the parts will show up on ebay or ytmag.

Hitchpin, youd better let it be known on here that your 1206 has been stolen.

Re: stolen 1206 June 29, 2010 03:32AM
Hello, and I am very sorry to hear of your situation. This is the second 1206 I've heard of being stolen. The other was recovered, without the serial tag, but owner didn't know the number anyway. and I assume your's will be removed as well. The engine serial number is much harder to remove as it's stamped into the block behind the oil cooler plumbing. Do you have that number? It would have to be ground off to be removed.

I could not get your facebook link to work. Is this the 1206 that was on ebay a year or so ago that was all black with silver panels? I thought I had the serial listed for it, but it was not 14067. Odd's are whomever stole it, is either a crapbag that doesn't have a computer, or someone that plans on selling it for scrap steel price, probably the crapbags line of work, or someone in the tractor world, that knows it's parts value. Being painted black will help identify it's parts easily if it's being parted out. Also if they are in the tractor world, odds are they know about these forums and read them.

what are the circumstances it was stolen under? in your shed? in a field away from anyone?any leads? hauled away by trailer? driven away? Post this on every IH forum so people can be aware of this situation. WIth a picture if you can, and allert all scrap buyers.

Send me your personal info with phone number for the registry so I can get ahold of you if something would happen to show up. My email is mgall@cvalley.net

You probably have your pictures as Private, so only your friends can see them...

Re: stolen 1206 June 29, 2010 02:02AM
I'm friends w/ Red Reaper over on Red Power; I sent him a message regarding this topic over here. I'll keep my eyes open for a black 1206.
