If you get a "National Dragster" (official publication of the NHRA), look for an ad for Ernie Saxon.
He is the expert on sponsorships, how to get them, how to keep them, etc.
He conducts classes on the subject. Also has a book.
The reason is because, it all depends,,,
Deductable? not only does it depend on how the business that wants to sponsor you is set up tax wise, it depends on how your pulling "enterprise" is set up.
The fact is, that, YES most do sponsor things for a return on the ADVERTISING dollars.
