4440 transmission speed question? November 02, 2011 10:47PM
Hello all, I know that if I take the quad range gears out of a 4440 and install in a 4430 it will make ground speed faster on the 4430. HOWEVER! if i was to install 4430 quad range gears into a 4440 how much will it slow down the 4440? will it be a considerable ammount? or barely noticeable. reason I ask is i need gears for my 4440 quad range, and 4430 gears are readily available. thanks for all input.

It will basically make wherever low side was will now be your high side and low will be 26% slower

If you have a straight cut gear 2spd the planet gears are the same, just flipped. Only the input drum/gear and output are diffrent. There are of course helical cut versions as well but they use diffrent gears.

So am I to understand that IF the quad gears on a 4430 are straight cut gears. They can be flipped around and that will make a 4430 quad an overdrive quad like a 4440???

The planet gears are the same, just flipped around. The tooth counts of the input & output gears are the same/flipped around, but they cannot be swapped becasue one has a drum welded to it & the other has an internal spline. I believe Deere has discontinued the input & output gears for the 40 series.

trans gears are pretty much same!! not sure how much it would change by putting 4430 stub shafts and planetarys on!! 4440 stub shafts are alot smaller thats were deere slowed the trans back down after swapping the planetary gears around in the 2 speed

The only way to do it through Deere these days is to use the RE12306 helical gear kit and it costs about $2300!! It is still available though.
