What is better a Profarm or 8500 LPS February 18, 2013 04:02AM
Im wanting to build for this summer and was either going to build a 466 profarm that runs water with the turbo rules being a 3 inch inlet only or I am going to build a 8500 Limited Prostock. I dont want to build a profarm that has ice for the reason that i dont want to mess with the ice i was wondering which has more speed and horse power a profarm or a 8500 limited prostock and comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Id say the limited pro will be a better ride but probably a much bigger hit in the wallet too.

Hp wise your going to be within 100 hp of each I would think. You can do alittle more motor work on the limited pro which will jack the price up but the limited RPM motor will be more reliable and cheaper to build. Put the 8 disk TA on the water tractor and you'll have you a fun reliable ride. 24.5's will be a bigger expense also on the limited pro. I dont think you will even touch the Intercooler tractors though. You would only be guaranteed 3-5th place I think in the pro farm class. Its your choice pretty much on your wallet and the limited pro class pays about double what the pro farm will.

If you can afford it go limpro. Which group? If you have to have a TA you don't have enough HP FACT.

motors are about the same 640,billet parts, girdles, pumps, injectors, are basically same, big difference is 4.1 is more expensive and maintence on higher rpm. Tires are going to be more 24.5 pullers to 20.8s

i believe he is talking about the 8500lbs limited pro which is 466ci 3x4smoothbore. Not the 9500lbs 640ci 4.1. The weight should have gave it away.

A good 466 wil still have billet parts, trans work or pro fab style, good pump and injectors it all cost and adds up

Re: What is better a Profarm or 8500 LPS February 20, 2013 03:21AM
but the good 466 will be half the cost and about half the horsepower of a good 640 4.1

In a 466 3x4 a pump class, what does it take to make these motors live at 5k off the line and 4k down the track? Open cam, ,a pump, 5x22 dual feeds, dual valve springs, end stand hold downs, water and intercooler? What am i forgetting

Hardened rods, a girdle, and billet pistons for starters

I don's know where you are and what the exact rules are, but here the 3" profarms run about 1300hp and the 4.1 limited pro run 2000 or more. The profarm should be a lot cheaper to build and maintain but the limited pro would be more fun.
