Is there much harvesting going on across the Midwest?

Re: harvest September 30, 2013 12:17PM
Just starting here in central IA. Beans are ahead of most of the corn.

Re: harvest September 30, 2013 01:11PM
our corn is any where from 16 to 25%. yields are average beans are running around 45

Re: harvest September 30, 2013 02:35PM
Just starting beans in north western WI. Corn is a little ways out yet beans are 11.5% and corn around 35% yet. Not sure on yields at this point

Re: harvest October 01, 2013 01:31AM
Central Ohio....Beans are at 13% with yeilds form 48 to 62 depending on how early they got planted. Better yeilds on beans with all the rain we got mid summer. Everyone is running and Corn is at 20 to 26% with yeilds at 200 plus. Should be a good year for our area.

Re: harvest October 01, 2013 05:10AM
Got quite a few guys out doing beans heard of one switching to corn already corns wetter but have heard 18-25 % in mn

Re: harvest October 02, 2013 04:09AM
not a farmer... what dose the percentage stand for ? dryness of the crop ?

2 poor 2 pull :-(

Re: harvest October 02, 2013 04:41AM
Yes sir that is correct.

Re: harvest October 01, 2013 03:09PM
NC IL

Beans are going but they are tough, yields are very good. We opened up one field of corn to get to some beans and the yield was 250+ but at 30%........

Re: harvest October 01, 2013 11:09PM
Here in northeast iowa beans are going 80-100 bpa at 12% and corn is 350-400 bpa at 17%. Ok next liar make something better up.

Re: harvest October 02, 2013 01:01AM
Beans are going well good yeild but not as good as in the past few years. Opened a feild of corn just to get to the beans yeild seemed pretty good but was at 32%

Re: harvest October 02, 2013 01:37AM
Big time operator, what's your problem? My beans are going 102 and my corn is going 410 at 15%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL Smiling Remember, first liar never has a chance. Smiling

Learn how to farm and you won't have to lie about your yields.

Some areas of the country acres are bigger than other areas of the country.

NW Wisconsin best fields average about mid 30's, low as 10. Wet, late, cold planting then hot when beans were forming pods and filling out killed us. Sucks.

G puller, learn how to read and then you will realize that this is all in fun.

Re: harvest October 04, 2013 03:44AM
If you just opened the field up where are you coming up with 250+. bpa. I am a farmer and I have a monitor in the combine that will hit 250 and more, but when the field is all done the average will be lower than that. I love when you go to the coffee shop and someone picks the biggest number that the yield monitor said and they say thats what the corn is making. Show me some scale tickets is what I always tell them.

Re: harvest October 04, 2013 04:29AM
True....seems in my fields the outside row is always best, gets more sun....

Re: harvest October 05, 2013 07:29AM
I agree with all of the above comments. I will say that some people do go and talk to land owners how good they farm, and some do use the highest yield monitor numbers, but it is the best way to use the field average to say what your yields made cause most fields have several different soil types and rainfall can vary from one end to the other. Yields in my area a very respectful compared to last year, corn probably average and beans little better than average, very thankful for what we are getting. Good luck to all as harvest progresses. I agree with what you are saying. I love the monitor, and when used right it can tell you alot about how the field is doing. Ours is very accurate and will be very close to the elevator scales. It is a very valuable tool for the farmer.

Re: harvest October 08, 2013 06:57AM
Had a quarter section that we ground ear corn on with our self propelled chopper that doesn't have a yield monitor so we had an insurance adjuster come out. He got 189. I feel like that is pretty accurate, it usually takes us a full 7 day week to fill our bunker and we nailed it down in 3 1/2 days this year the corn just flew out the chute and it was tough to go very fast at all or you would pull the motor down on the cutter. We have had one day of bean combining on our river bottom ground and the monitor says anywhere from 45-65 thinking 48 - 50 is going to be a good average in the low ground and have heard reports of high ground getting better yields becasue it was so wet in the draw early this spring. Hoping to get some 60 bu beans on the side hills.

Safe harvest to everyone and have fun in the shops this winter buildin new machines or fixing old ones.

South Central Ky
Corn. Avg 165 at 2 farms. Did a small 40 acre field
Yesterday that did 200 bpa
I'm not the best of a row crop farmer. Just trying my best.

Re: harvest October 06, 2013 01:09AM
Have just started doing High Moisture corn. Some of the best yields in a long time. How are you handling the low corn prices? I hoped we would get at least $6.00 corn this year. Knew the bottom would drop out at some point. We don't contract. Try to sell HMSC to local farmers but not many Dairy farms left in our area so a lot goes to local mills. Good luck to all !!

Re: harvest October 06, 2013 11:27AM
you bring up a good point. I was on here last year arguing that the prices would fall out if we just had a wet summer. i was blown away at how many argued with me that it would never happen because of the gov't buying corn for ethanol and other reasons. i think we see now that it still comes back to supply and demand, and supply is great this year, and corn prices are back in reason.
