JD 3 pinion diff fit? May 28, 2014 04:12PM
When installing a 3 pinion anti friction differential (4450) in a 4430 it all looks to fit except the bearing on the ring gear side is slightly different. What is the correct way to change this problem? Do you get the bearing holder out of a 4450 rear end and bolt it in or do you change the diff lock cover between the 4430 and the 4450 differential? The race and taper of the bearing is a little different and it has a few more rollers. The new race will not fit in the old holder.

put the cover with the 4430 bearing with all the bolts in it on the 4450 diff housing and use the 4430 bearing cup housing just like it was works perfect.
