IH 400 series roller lifters August 25, 2014 11:36AM
I have a small flat lifter block and wish to put a roller cam in it. Is it realistically worth finding a big lifter block to do this, or would I be fine buying aftermarket drop in roller lifters for the block I have?

Also, should I expect any less performance or durability with aftermarket small roller lifters? Thanks

For the longgevity of cam and lifters yes

A thought about roller cams, changing the roller wheel diameter from the original designed size makes a duration change. A common size is a .750 diameter roller wheel, changing to a 23 mm .9055 wheel for example will increase the duration @ .050 by about 1 3/4 degrees assuming the base circle did not change. My company manufactures camshafts, that is all we do, stuff related to Camshafts. Billets, regrinds, profiling your camshaft, cam lobe design, tappet resurfacing and high end engine simulation. We can make a suggestion or you can tell us what you want. Either way your success is our goal.

We have 1 inch roller lifter drop in. No problem with them for durability. Yes the roller is smaller, but that will not effect performance if you regrind the cam or buy one of our aftermarket steel core cams.
