Which deere 466 December 11, 2014 02:37PM
Thinking about building a sbjd for a 3000 rpm tractor, a pump box turbo 3lm466. I have a choice of an older 466 cam driven oil pump or a 7.6 combine motor. The major things will be the same in either by the time it is finished so do the little things matter? I think the cam is different in the 7.6, the oil pump is different, what else? The head will be 86427 on both. Thanks

Start with an engine that has the crank driven oil pump, Some late 6466 blocks had it, and I pretty sure all 6076's where.

I think a IH truck motor has a roller cam in it. Do any SBJD have roller cams? Is it very important?

John Deere 466 / 7.6L / 8.1L engines don't have factory roller lifters. Any engine builder can install them for you. I ran Super Farm for two years with factory stock flat lifters and had no problems. Roller lifters are better if they fit in your budget. Remember if you go roller you will have to run billit camshaft.
