18" or 20" wide Aluminum rims January 05, 2015 03:40AM
I am getting a set of aluminum rims this month, I cannot decide on the width. I have a set of 18.4 x 38 bfg 151’s that I will be running, so I am wanting some opinions on what width to go with. I was also wondering who has the best price on 38” rims, for a tractor up to 8000 lbs. Thank You for all your help

I run 18.4X38 Radial Firestones 23 degree on 20" Kiezer rims. I got them from Hawthorne's. Mark was really helpful in figuring out the size rims for my tires and cut and the tractor I was mounting them on. Price there was as good as anywhere.

Thank you, Did you have much trouble getting the bead to seat. Also, did you see a traction difference between the old 18" steel and the new 20" aluminum?

I was running 20" steel wheels before, I needed the weight savings, got me about 250 pounds. Mounted tires with 20.8 tubes, had a tire shop that knew what they were doing mount them, he said they had no problems at all getting them mounted. Bead screws were included with the wheels and were easy to install, took about an hour per wheel with a cordless drill, 122 per tire IIRC. Call Mark @ Hawthorne's, he was really helpful, 608-558-2316. He asked questions for 30 minutes before he ever discussed the wheels he recommended that I should get. He's pretty busy, but if you leave him a message or send him a message on their website, I guarantee he'll call you back. They are on the Builders page.
