Cummins ISL vs QSL 8.9L question February 13, 2015 04:20PM
OK. I've Google'd it already and can't find it.
I know the Cummins ISL is for on-road and the QSL is for off-road, but are there any differences in the engines besides probably emissions crap?
And why do some call the L series 9.0Liter, and others call it an 8.9Liter??

Re: Cummins ISL vs QSL 8.9L question February 13, 2015 11:45PM
No difference. Just be careful in getting a very early ISL as the lifters are much smaller in diameter and the block does not have the screw in keepers

I guess the ones that aren't screw in are cast in the block?

Good luck finding performance stuff not to many making aftermarket performance parts for the 8.3-8.9

Go to the 8.9L. Just make sure you have the block with the roller lifters. That makes stuff easier, and more affordable. As far as parts, we make camshafts, and sleeves so far. We also are going to make deckplates, girdles, and billet main caps. So most of the parts will be available like anything else.

Contact the Yantes team out of Ohio February 26, 2015 01:45AM
Get with the Yantes team out of Ohio. Those guys have had their hands on 8.3 and 8.9 Cummins for longer than anybody I know. Those guys have faced every trial possible with those motors and can tell you where to go to get the right parts. Those guys know their stuff about the bigger Cummins, also Eddie Kerr out of mid-south is knowledgeable, but the Yantes team has always been a huge help to me.
