Gas 4x4 truck blocks April 09, 2015 12:55PM
I was wondering what size block would be best to get 650ci out of for super stock 4x4 truck class. BSTP rules. Do they use 454's,460's? thanks for the assistance!

Do pullers just bore and stroke these motors to get that many cubes? What about tri state pullers? they have a 530ci limit (5ci lee-way) how do they achieve 530ci?

I ran a bowtie block 4.375 inch bore 4.375 inch stroke = 526 cid pulled hard lots of torque always at the top check your club rules super stock 4x4 is 530cid max mod 4x4 class is 650cid max.Denny Thomas' club runs bigger super stock motors 540 and 572cid chevys I have heard. The 572 is 4.56inch bore 4.375 inch stroke with a tall deck chevy bowtie block.

if your building 530 cube in a "ford style" get an svo block and go after it. that way you have a decent block and its strong enough to hold up. you can spend to much trying to stroke etc a stock 460 type block to get there. do it once do it rite

Ford style engine go with the Eliminator Block. You can bore to 4.700 and stroke it to 4.75 without a lot of block clearing issues. I always bought mine directly from John & Jay Cornell, they created this block. (Eliminator Performance Products) You may have to go thru a dealer to get this block now such as Flatlander Racing.
The block is reasonably priced.

For the 526 Chevy a block from GM Performance Parts Chevy Bowtie Block standard deck part number 25534362 you have some choices of bore and stroke for the bigger inch motors you use the tall deck block also from GM to work with the longer stroke Chevys are cheaper to build than Fords more parts around when you blowup (everyone does) you get back running faster with a Chevy it takes lots of $$$$$ to be competitive in SS4X4 or MOD4X4 some guys at the top have $65,000 to $75,000 in SS motors yes 5 figures 1000 to 1200 horsepower on one 4 barrel.
